THIS WEEK IN MXA: “IF YOU’RE WINNING, WHY SWITCH?” STAR RACING ON AIR FORKS

After becoming a powerhouse 250 team in recent years, Star Racing Yamaha took over the 450 Supercross/motocross effort from Yamaha before the 2021 season and won Yamaha’s first 450 National Championship since Grant Langston in 2007 in their first year. Not to mention, it was their rider Dylan Ferrandis’ rookie season in the premier class as well. On top of their 450 Outdoor success, Star’s 450 riders showed great speed in Supercross and they won both the East and West coast 250 titles with Justin Cooper and Colt Nichols.

In Episode 39 of our ‘This Week in MXA’ video series presented by O’Neal Racing, we interview some of the members working behind the scenes at Star to make the team what it is today. Alex Campbell is Dylan Ferrandis’ mechanic, he talks about Dylan’s work ethic and drive to win. Ricky Gilmour is the KYB suspension technician for the 450 riders and he expounds on the different systems for suspension that Ferrandis uses compared to Christian Craig and Aaron Plessinger. Drew Hopkins, the KYB suspension technician for the 250 team talks about using air forks and working with Jeremy Martin. Then, Steve Rounds, former Yamaha road race mechanic talks about the differences between the factory Yamaha 450 team in 2020 and the new Star Racing Yamaha 450 effort in 2021.

Also included in this video, the recovery process and price it cost to race the Hangtown National (watch our video from that day here), and we get into the latest news on which riders are switching teams for 2022.
