TOM WHITE’S VETERANS DAY SALUTE TO THOSE WHO SERVE
As we celebrate Veterans Day, I’d like to share this image. The man’s name is Walter Ehlers. He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his service during World War II at D-Day and the days after. His actions on these days were the reason he was recognized by the President and was one of the inspirations for the movies “Saving Private Ryan” and “Band of Brothers.” Walter is one of the most significant persons I’ll meet in my lifetime. My wife Dani and I have been hosting over 130 U.S. marines at my “Early Years Of Motocross Museum” which is where Walter came to speak to the next generation of American heroes. Thankfully, my town, Villa Park, California, has several hundred families that have graciously agreed to bring young Marines, who are far away from their families, into their homes every Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, we lost Walter three years ago when he was still a young man of 93. Enjoy this image of Walter at the museum on Thanksgiving in 2012. Never forget.
