TWO-STROKE TUESDAY | TRACTION MX’S 2014 YAMAHA YZ250 | RETRO STYLE
“Hey MXA, we here at Traction MX have done a few bike builds in the past. The retro RM250 and we were a big part of the Ransom KX500AF. This bike was a 2014 low-hour Yamaha YZ250. We decided to do another retro-styled build. The 1990s era to Traction MX was the coolest era of racing: from the two-strokes to the colors, sponsors and just the vibes.
“Haeseker Racing built the engine and did the vapor blasting on the cases and cylinder. Boyesen sent over the Rad Valve, case covers, Supercooler and X-wing. Sweetwater custom coatings did the cerakote on the clutch primary and the Boyesen parts. Luke from Phathead Racing did a one-off purple high compression billet head. Brandon from Bill’s pipes sent an MX2 carbon silencer and Factory style pipe. Ride Engineering triple clamps and bar mounts were used. Jason at SGB Suspension did some crazy bronze to purple coating on the fork lowers with a gunmetal color to the uppers with Race Teach Gold Valve components. We went with Mika Metals bars, chain and sprockets. Aaron at AGMX Graphics collaborated with us on restyling the 1993 YZ look.
“UFO Plastics and Clarke tanks made our white 1993 YZ look come to life. The KSR Wheels were laced up with D.I.D. wheels and Haan TI hubs. We got the Pirelli MX32 tires from PST trackside support. Of course, we custom made a Traction MX matching seat. Motoblast finished frame and swingarm. Various polished parts and titanium matching bolts and hardware. When we aren’t not making customizing seat covers here at Traction MX we are out riding or tinkering and building bikes. We are looking for some inspiration for our next build.” –Traction MX, owner, Pete Baltera.
