VANCE & HINES TEAM DOMINATES USGP THOR MOTOCROSS CUP: PRESTON TILFORD AND STEVEN TOKARSKI
The AMA Thor Cup Amateur races leading up to the 2011 USGP at Glen Helen was dominated by the powerful Vance & Hines team. Preston V&H’s Preston Tilford won the 250 and 450 Pro classes, while his teammate Steven Tokarski wept the 250 and 450 Intermediate events.
The V&H duo, who use Glen Helen Raceway for training and testing, took were never bested over the Thursday and Friday USGP warm-ups races.
Connor Stouff took two runner-up spots behind Tilford in the Pros, with David Meade getting third in the 250 Pro class and Brian Bebeck taking third in the 450 Pros.
Tokarski was followed home in the 250 Intermediates by Brandon Scharer and Chris Proscelle and by Jeremy McCool and Brandon Scharer in the 450 Intermediates.
OTHER NOTABLE WINNERS
A large group of USGP Vet Cup riders decided to race the Thor Cup warm-up races to prepare for the USGP on Sunday. Alfredo Camps, from Barcelona, Spain, took the Over-40 Expert win in front of Steve Nelson and Chuck Sun. Camps was tenth in the World Vet Cup at Valkenswaard, Holland, two weeks ago.
Four-time 250 National Champion Gary Jones, 59-years-old, won the Over-40 Intermediate class in front of John Begin and Bryan Friday, while Rick Sowma, Loren Taylor and Paulo Monteiro went one-two-three in the Over-40 Novice class.
Rick Sowma came back to win the Over-50 Novices also.
John Perry took the Over-50 Expert victory in close battle with several Europeans, MX1 suspension’s Dick Wilkes and MTA’s Mark Hall.
Justin Jones won the College class (for riders from 16 to 24) with Chris Proscelle second and Jeremy McCool third.
Sara Price won the Women’s Expert division, while Shelby Ward took the gold in the Intermediate Women and Erica Werner won the Beginner Women.
Troy Graffunder beat Nick Bellhouse and Jack Saggau in the the 150 class.
