250 WEST SUPERCROSS: FIRST TIME WINNER COMES OUT OF THE LAST CHANCE & ANONYMITY TO WIN
The first race of the three-race stand at Atlanta Motor Speedway was eventful to say the least. Billed as a second version of the Daytona Super Speedway race back a month ago, Atlanta did not have the same dirt as Daytona. Instead an mid morning shower left the Georgia clay with the consistency of snot. It looked firm and well prepped, but it was slippery. It got better after the track crew scraped the slick top layer away, but crashes were the order to the day. As expected, Eli Tomac took the win, but it took a lapper to get in the way of leader Chase Sexton to insure it. Meanwhile, in the 250 West, young Nate Thrasher came from the ranks of journeyman racers to the top of the heap — after making the main in the Last Chance, Thrasher ran away from the pack in the 250 West main.
