2022 ANAHEIM 2 SUPERCROSS PRE-RACE REPORT: INJURED LIST, TV SCHEDULE & MORE
2022 ANAHEIM 2 SUPERCROSS PRE-RACE REPORT:
Round 4 of the 2022 Monster Energy Supercross season is up next and we’re headed back to Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, for our second of three races there (Anaheim 3 is Rd. 6 on Feb. 12th). Coming into the Anaheim 2 Supercross it’s the Star Racing Yamaha boys, Eli Tomac and Christian Craig, who hold the red plates. Craig has a steady 6-point gap on Hunter Lawrence and 11-point gap on Michael Mosiman in the 250 West division while Eli Tomac has a mere 1-point lead on Chase Sexton and Cooper Webb who are tied for second. See below for this Saturday’s TV and online streaming schedule, the track map, current point standings and injured list. 2022 ANAHEIM 2 SUPERCROSS | FULL COVERAGE
450SX PODIUM SHUFFLE: 8-RIDERS CLAIM 9-SPOTS
Chase Sexton grabbed his first win at San Diego with Eli Tomac second and Dylan Ferrandis third. (Although Eli and Dylan stood on the wrong sides of the podium)
Jason Anderson, Aaron Plessinger and Justin Barcia podium’d at Oakland.
Ken Roczen, Cooper Webb and Justin Barcia rounded out the podium at Anaheim 1.
The 450 Championship has already been ultra exciting. We’re three Rounds in and only Justin Barcia has two podiums (both third place), we’ve had three different points leaders and the current points leader, Eli Tomac, hasn’t even won a race yet. The top-8 in the 450SX point standings are only separated by 7-points, which means the chances of having a new points leader for Round 5 in Arizona are very high.
CHASE SEXTON: HOT OFF HIS FIRST 450SX MAIN EVENT WIN
Chase Sexton has been close before, but now he’s officially a 450 Main Event winner. With his speed, technique and confidence, Sexton will be a threat to everyone else for the rest of the season. Plus, he’s only 1-point behind Tomac in the standings.
MICHAEL MOSIMAN: HOT OFF HIS FIRST 250SX MAIN EVENT WIN
Michael Mosiman gave GasGas their first win in the 250 class at San Diego. Question is, can he do it again if Christian Craig doesn’t crash in the first turn?
2022 ANAHEIM 2 TRACK MAP
Round 4 of the season has two sets of whoops and a sand section.
INJURED LIST:
ADAM CIANCIARULO | KNEE
Adam Cianciarulo was already racing with an injured shoulder and now he has an injured knee. Click here to read more.
JOEY SAVATGY | KNEE
Joey Savatgy tore his ACL in his right knee during practice on Tuesday after Anaheim 1. He raced through the injury at Oakland and finished 11th, but a first turn crash in his Heat race at San Diego ended his night and season early. Joey posted via instagram: “Well. I tried, I love this job so much and sometimes it’s cruel. Trying to race and not being near 100% isn’t ideal, especially in this class. Yesterday was tough, with a track filled with right handers and some tough whoops the knee gave me all it could. But the crash in the heat was the final straw, so I’ve decided to get my knee fixed. Anyone who supports team 17 I appreciate you more than you know, sometimes it feels like you keep getting punched in the face but this will pass. I will keep everyone updated as events happen. I will be back”
SETH HAMMAKER | LACERATED SPLEEN & FRACTURED T7/T8 VERTABRA
Pro Circuit’s Seth Hammaker had finished second in each of the first two rounds, but after a crash at the test track, he will be out of action for an undetermined amount of time.
BENNY BLOSS | ANKLE/COLLARBONE
Benny Bloss switched from MotoConcepts Honda to Team Tedder KTM for 2022, but he was injured before the season. Benny has had surgery on his ankle an collarbone and will return as soon as possible. Josh Hill is currently filling-in for Benny.
JUSTIN HILL | SHOULDER
We don’t know when Justin Hill will be back at the races, hopefully sooner than later.
JUSTIN COOPER | BROKEN FOOT
Sadly, the defending 250 West Coast Champion is out for the entire Supercross season in 2022. Read his post on Instagram below:
Justin Cooper stated: “Hey guys unfortunately I had a crash yesterday at the track. I got a little bit off line in a rhythm and didn’t get the lift for the next triple and cased it pretty hard which was fine. Almost had it saved and when I finally laid it down my foot got pinched under the footpeg. That being said it turns out i have broken and dislocated 4 metatarsals and have some fractures in the center of my foot as well. Will most likely get surgery early next week. Not the way I wanted to start the year off, everything has been going really good until this. This is called a Lisfranc injury and will probably put me off the bike for about 6 months. Tough pill to swallow but this is part of life and you have these obstacles. How you overcome these difficulties is what defines you. I’ll keep you guys updated once I know more, it’s all very fresh so just giving a quick update on what I know so far. I will be missing all of SX, hopefully will be good to go for MX”
COLT NICHOLS | INJURED ARMS
Colt Nichols crashed in the whoops while leading the first 250 Heat race of the night at Anaheim. Sadly, it ended his chances of battling for the 250 West Coast title this season.
Colt Nichols posted via instagram: “It’s been a tough week, but I wanted to share a quick update with everyone. Unfortunately, my season was over before it started with my crash in the heat race last Saturday. I ended up breaking both arms and had surgery as well as a quick little skin graft to help with the burns on my back from when the bike landed on me. I should be heading home any day to begin the recovery process.
Life doesn’t always make sense, but we must get back up and keep going. Just like my championship post said last May — To Hell And Back — because I’ve overcome far too much to stop now. Appreciate all the messages and support more than you can imagine.”

The 2022 Anaheim 2 Supercross is the fourth round of the season for the 450SX and 250SX West classes, but it’s actually the second Round for the Supercross Futures amateur series.
