2023 DETROIT SUPERCROSS PRE-RACE REPORT: INJURY LIST, TV SCHEDULE & MORE
Coming into the 2023 Detroit Supercross, Cooper Webb has the red plate, but Ken Roczen is still the talk of the town. Ken overcame the odds and brought Suzuki their first premier class win since 2016, when he did it last on the RCH Suzuki team at the East Rutherford SX. Can he do it again? Only time will tell, but the sport is surely better off with Ken Roczen at the top step. Ken is a fan favorite, he has a comeback story after dealing with major life altering injuries and now he’s riding for an underdog team, HEP Suzuki, making them look good on the top step of the podium.
The Detroit Supercross is set to be the tenth round of the 2023 Monster Energy Supercross season. The 450SX battles have been intense, and for the first time this year, Eli Tomac won’t have the red plate. Cooper Webb will be dressed in red, but he’ll have to stay in front of Tomac at Detroit if he wants to keep it. Eli won at this race last year, and will be hard to beat as he sets out to prove that he’s still got what it takes, even after an off weekend at Indy.
As for the 250 East Coast ranks, Hunter Lawrence, Max Anstie, Haiden Deegan, Nate Thrasher and the rest are preparing for their sixth race of the year. Hunter so far has four out of five wins and a 22-point lead on Max Anstie in the points.

THIS WEEK IN MXA: DETROIT SUPERCROSS PREVIEW
INJURY REPORT:
COLT NICHOLS – CONCUSSION
Colt Nichols hit his head during the first qualifying practice at Daytona. He missed Indianapolis and we are unsure if he will return for Detroit.
DYLAN FERRANDIS – CONCUSSION
Dylan Ferrandis is out for a few more weeks. Click here to read Dylan Ferrandis’ injury update, by the Star Racing Yamaha team.
MARVIN MUSQUIN – WRIST
33-year-old Marvin Musquin injured his wrist in a practice crash after Anaheim 1. KTM announced that he is out indefinitely with a scaphoid injury. The scaphoid bone is a delicate one that doesn’t receive a lot of blood flow, meaning that it can die off if it isn’t allowed to heal properly. Marvin had a one-year, Supercross-only contract for 2023 with KTM and we are unsure what his future will look like if he doesn’t race anymore this season.
MICHAEL MOSIMAN – CONCUSSION
Michael Mosiman had a crash at Daytona resulting in the GasGas rider hitting his head and suffering a concussion. Michael will follow concussion protocol and remain out of this weekend at Detroit.
NICK ROMANO – KNEE
Nick Romano will miss the entire 2023 season, both Supercross and motocross. Nick tore his ACL and meniscus in his knee and had surgery.
MALCOLM STEWART – KNEE
Malcolm Stewart crashed while practicing after the San Diego Supercross and he tore his ACL. Malcolm just had surgery last week and is out for the foreseeable future.
JO SHIMODA – COLLARBONE
Jo Shimoda was slated to race 250 East Coast, but he broke his collarbone a week and a half before the Houston opener. He hopes to be back at the races for Atlanta.
SETH HAMMAKER – WRIST
Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Seth Hammaker injured his wrist the same week as Jo Shimoda, leaving Mitch Payton’s team empty until Chris Blose got the fill-in ride.
JALEK SWOLL – BROKEN ARM
Just a week before the 250 East Coast regional Supercross championship kicked off, Jalek crashed and suffered a spiral fracture in his arm. Jalek has already undergone successful surgery and now he’s on the road to recovery.
AUSTIN FORKNER – KNEE
Austin Forkner injured his knee at the start of the 250 Main Event at Anaheim 1. He had surgery on it and is most likely out for the season.
GARRETT MARCHBANKS – WRIST
Garrett suffered an arm injury during his pre-season training at the Club MX facility. Unfortunately the arm didn’t heal correctly at first, requiring another surgery. He is now back riding, but not ready to race yet.
