WEIRD STUFF! THE PIAGGIO MP3 IS A TRIKE WITH A TWIST:
Piaggio launched the first Vespa scooter in 1946. Sixty years later they have come up with the Piaggio MP3 — a three-wheeler with two front wheels. According to Piaggio, the MP3 provides safety, road grip and stability levels that no two-wheeler can match. Power, performance and ease of use make for a very entertaining ride.
The full extent of this three-wheeler’s stability can be tested on wet asphalt or tough riding conditions that would sorely challenge a traditional two-wheeler. The MP3 requires far less braking space than any scooter — the three-disc braking system and exceptional front-end road holding reduce braking space by 20 per cent compared to the best scooters.
The MP3 uses three 12″ wheels with large tires — 120/70 front and 130/70 rear. Together with the revolutionary front suspension, the wheels provide a tilt angle of up to 40-degrees while riding like a normal two wheeler. At the rear, the MP3 features a single-arm suspension with two dual-effect hydraulic shock absorbers, a helicoidal spring and four-position preload.
THE FUEL-INJECTED POWERPLANT
The Piaggio MP3 is available in two engine displacements, a Piaggio Quasar 250 i.e. and a Leader 125. The Quasar 250 i.e. is a four-stroke, four-valve, liquid-cooled engine that meets Euro 3 standards. The new Quasar electronic fuel injection uses closed-loop injection with a Lambda sensor. The MP3 125cc version uses a latest-generation four-stroke, four-valve, liquid-cooled Leader engine, also compatible with Euro 3 standards.
The MP3 is available in the USA and the retail price is around $7000.
