MXA’S WEEKEND NEWS ROUND-UP: NEW BIKES ARE DRIBBLING IN—THEY ARE BOTH EARLY & LATE
• MXA VIDEO: 2025 KTM 250SXF FIRST TEST
MXA’s Josh Mosiman takes the new 2025 KTM 250SXF for a spin at Glen Helen Raceway and shares all we know about the updated model after riding the Factory Edition 2024-1-2 KTM 250SXF for the past few months. The KTM 250SXF gains updates to the frame, engine mounts and linkage, all to promote flexibility. It also has new shrouds and an updated swingarm with a new chain slider as well.
• MXA VIDEO: 2025 HONDA CR450 FIRST TEST
MXA sent a large portion of its test crew to the Red Bud National and it’s a good thing we did because Josh Mosiman came up short on LaRocco’s Leap and broke his collarbone. He flew home to get it plated, but Red Bud was just the first stop on MXA’s cross-country journey, because we had to go on to Ironman Raceway in Indiana to attend the 2025 Honda CRF450 Press Intro. Luckily, Dennis Stapleton, Josh Fout and Trevor Nelson stepped up to take Josh Mosiman’s place. Then Dennis flew to Taiwan, Josh Fout went on midwest tour and Trevor went to Washougal. Sit back and enjoy a rainy day in Indiana with the bike we’ve all been waiting for.
• MXA VIDEO: 2025 KTM 450SXF FIRST TEST
The 2025 KTM 450SXF is officially here! The frame has received the most significant updates, with visible cutouts and tube-wall thickness changes around the front, engine mounts, and rear shock mounting areas. We know all about this bike because we’ve been riding and racing on the 2024-1/2 KTM 450SXF Factory Edition, which has all the same major updates as this one, plus some extra Factory Edition goodies. In this video, MXA’s Josh Mosiman talks about the new bike after a day of testing at Glen Helen.
• MXA VIDEO: 2025 HONDA CR250 FIRST TEST
MXA’s Josh Mosiman, Dennis Stapleton and Justin Lee spent day one of the 2025 Honda test regimen comparing it to the 2024 Honda CRF250. They dissected the differences between the chassis and the engine. In this video, Josh explains how it works on the track, and dives into lots of details that you might otherwise have missed.
• THE GREATEST DEAL IN MOTOCROSS: A VIRTUALLY FREE SUBSCRIPTION TO MXA
This is the cover of the August 2024 issue of MXA. It features our exclusive test of the three brand-new Honda motocross bikes—a CR125, CR250 and CR500. However they didn’t come from Honda, they were built in Indiana. Additionally, we have no illusions that the Surron Ultra Bee & Stormm Bee that we tested in this issue are full-on motocross bikes, but they are excellent play bikes, trail bike and backyard bikes. Also in this issue, we had Hawaiian motocross racer Brian Medeiros tell us exactly how he prepped his Suzuki RM-Z450 for the AMA 450 Nationals. You won’t want to miss the comparison test between the KTM 250SX Two-stroke and KTM 300SX two-stroke or our 60 horsepower shootout between a KTM 450SXF and a KTM 350SXF—both tuned to produce exactly 60 horsepower by Twisted Development.
Did you know that it couldn’t be easier or cheaper to subscribe to MXA than it is right now—because when you subscribe you receive a Rocky Mountain ATV/MC credit for $25 towards anything in their massive inventory, all at no cost to you. Plus, you will get all the content in the 12 monthly issues of Motocross Action magazine delivered to your home by a uniformed U.S. government employee. And that isn’t all that is in the August 2024 Issue of MXA, but we have to leave some surprises for when your new issue hits your mailbox. Don’t forget, the $25 credit from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC means that you get a subscription for MXA at a giant discount. Are you smart enough to recognize a great deal when you see it? • IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR: WIDE WORLD OF FOOTPEG DEVELOPMENT
The modern footpeg took a long time to get where it is today. Footpegs have gone from flat metal plates to spot-welded bumps to AMA-mandated rubber covers to Hodaka’s sliding bar footpegs to pivoting footpegs and, most exotically, to CCM bolting its footpegs directly on the ignition and clutch covers. With each passing year, the width of footpegs has steadily increased. Back in the day, the typical motocross peg was 25mm wide. Kawasaki was the first OEM manufacturer to install ultra-wide 40mm footpegs on its bikes, and today the most popular titanium aftermarket pegs are 57mm wide. Anyone betting on 60mm?
1964 to 1972 smooth Husky pegs.
1972 Hodaka rubber-covered pegs that could be adjusted fore and aft by loosening two bolts. In most cases, one footpeg would be forward and the other aft.
Sten Lundin’s1961 Lito 500 footpegs were very grippy for the time—thanks to spot welds.
Rubber-covered footpegs were common place on production motocross bikes in the late 1960s and early ’70s.
1976 CCM footpeg bolted to the ignition cover.
Aluminum Flo footpegs with replaceable teeth.
Modern titanium footpegs. These are from Scar Racing, check out their website here.

• MXA PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: WORKS CONNECTION ELITE KTM/HUSQVARNA ELITE AXLE BLOCK KIT
Works Connection’s Elite Axle Block Kit converts your stock KTM / Husqvarna rear axle from a fixed design into a floating type. Our kit retains your stock axle and aluminum axle nut so your ‘leaner’ triangle can still be used. KTM and Husqvarna down sized their rear axles from 25mm to 22mm for the 2023 models (GasGas joined them in 2024), so Works Connection went back to the drawing board and designed an all-new kit. KTM’s and Husqvarna’s Factory race teams use this same floating type design on their race team bikes to improve traction as well as straight line stability and now those same benefits are available from this kit.
Works Connection’s ‘kit’ consists of a pair of CNC-macgined Elite Axle Blocks, a machined Titanium drive-side receiver and a square removal tool nut.
The key component is the integrated receiver post on each axle block that allows the use of calipers to precisely measure and match the left and right axle block’s position. This ensures exact alignment of the chain and sprocket so critical to prolonging chain and sprocket life. The retail price of the Elite Axle Block Kit in $99.95 in blue, red, black, orange and silver. It is designed and manufactured in the USA.
