TODAY’S BIRTHDAY BOY: A YANK IN, OUT & IN KING GIUSEPPE’S COURT
Thomas Covington was born on January 23, 1996. Many in Europe consider him a transplanted AMA Pro, but in truth very few casual American fans have ever heard of Thomas Covington. He had never raced an AMA National or Supercross and went straight to Europe from Loretta Lynns. Originally racing for Kawasaki, he moved to Husqvarna’s 250 GP team and gave them Grand Prix victories in 2016 and 2017. He was selected to be on the 2017 American Motocross des Nations team. In 2019 he got his first chance to actually race an American Pro race.
Sadly, it didn’t work out for Thomas in the USA and he returned to the 450 MXGP series for 2020. And about 11 races into the 2020 MXGP series, Thomas Covington quit the sport—cold turkey.
