After a quick break, we return to racing at the 2025 Charlotte SMX round one. This is a three race series where combined points from Supercross and motocross dictated the overall points standings. However, points basically have reset to the leader having twenty-five points, second with twenty-two points, third with twenty points, and so on. Currently, Justin Cooper leads the way in the 450 class after Lawrence missed the majority of Supercross with a knee injury. As for the 250 class, Haiden Deegan leads the way as he was champion in both Supercross and Motocross this year.

SUPERMOTOCROSS RETURNS THIS WEEKEND IN CHARLOTTE

Track map of the first round of the SMX Series in Charlotte.

SMX Playoff 1 opens the SuperMotocross postseason on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at zMAX Dragway in the Charlotte-Concord area. It brings the top riders from Supercross and Pro Motocross onto a custom hybrid of stadium and motocross. The round uses a two-moto format for both 450 SMX and 250 SMX, each 20 minutes plus 1 lap with Olympic scoring deciding the overall, so consistency across both races matters. Riders are seeded by combined regular-season points, then championship points are reset for the playoffs, with the top seed beginning at 25 points, second at 22, third at 20, and so on, which makes the opener high stakes from the first gate drop. The three-round postseason continues in St. Louis and concludes in Las Vegas.

YOUR 2024 SUPERMOTOCROSS CHAMPIONS

Jett Lawrence 2025 Red Bud National-Jett Lawrence was the 2024 450SMX Champion.

Jett Lawrence clinched the 2024 450 SuperMotocross World Championship in Las Vegas on September 21 by sweeping both motos at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway; after a first-lap incident between Justin Barcia and Chase Sexton removed Sexton from the fight, the title came down to Jett and his brother Hunter, they finished the Playoffs tied on points, and Jett took the crown on the tiebreaker for having more overall Playoff wins, along with the one million dollar champion payout.

Haiden Deegan was your 2024 250SMX Champion.

Haiden Deegan wrapped up the 250 SMX title by doing the heavy lifting in the first two Playoff rounds and then managing the finale. He went one and one to build a comfortable cushion, then finished one and two in Las Vegas while Pierce Brown took the overall with two and one. The perfect Playoff moto streak ended, but the championship never felt in doubt, and Deegan walked away with the 250 crown and the five hundred thousand dollar champion payout.

INJURED LIST:

JORGE PRADO – TIME OFF

Jorge Prado 2025 Red Bud National-3Following his first Pro Motocross Championship campaign and placing sixth overall, Jorge Prado and Kawasaki mutually decided that he would not participate in the upcoming supermotocross Playoff rounds.

Jorge Prado was frustrated because he never felt comfortable or safe on the Kawasaki. He struggled to find a setup he trusted, felt like he was riding below his level, and was adapting to new tracks and a new series while dealing with a few crashes. He still finished sixth overall, then he and Kawasaki agreed he would skip the SMX Playoffs.

JALEK SWOLL – LEG

Jalek Swoll 2025 RedBud NationalJalek Swoll injured his calf at the Ironman National. He had returned from an Achilles injury, and the calf being in the same location was best for him to take some time off and recover. It is currently unclear if he will return for the Supermotocross finals.
A statement from Triumph: “After sustaining a calf injury at Ironman, along with a thumb injury from Southwick, the 25-year-old will miss the remainder of the series to focus on being fully healthy for 2026.”

MICHAEL MOSIMAN – CONCUSSION

Michael Mosiman had a scary crash in the first moto at Unadilla. Though we have had no confirmation that he will be missing the Budds Creek round, it is usually protocol to take several weeks off following a concussion. Michael also suffered a cut above his eye, which led to some intense swelling, bleeding, and bruising. We are speculating that his return will come for the opening round of the SMX finale, but again, this is not clear.

AARON PLESSINGER – HEALTH

Aaron Plessinger Spring Creek National-1Plessinger has decided it is best to sit out the remaining Supermotocross rounds and focus on coming back completely healthy for the 2026 season.

Ian Harrison, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager, said: “The whole Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team is fully behind Aaron Plessinger, everyone’s favorite Cowboy. Our priority right now is making sure he receives the best medical advice and care possible. Aaron came into RedBud not at 100 percent, but he gave it his all and continued to push through to line up at Millville. Unfortunately, he felt the effects of his illness early on and, despite fighting hard in the first moto, was completely depleted and unable to recover for the second. By sitting out Washougal and heading into the break, it gives him a few weeks to focus on figuring out exactly what’s going on with his health. Most importantly, it allows him time to gain peace of mind and make the best decision on when he’s ready to return to racing.”

JASON ANDERSON – UNKNOWN

Jason Anderson 2025 Red Bud National-Kawasaki announced that Jason Anderson will sit out the remainder of the SMX season due to “health issues.”

CASEY COCHRAN – SHOULDER

Casey had a crash during qualifying for the Southwick National, which resulted in a dislocated shoulder that will require surgery. He will be missing the remainder of the Supermotocross season.

Sean Murphy, Rockstar Energy GASGAS Factory Racing Team Manager: “It’s a tough break for Casey, especially after the adversity he’s already battled with the injury he sustained prior to Supercross. He’s shown incredible determination, and we were looking forward to getting a full outdoor season under his belt, but Casey is an extremely determined rider, and we’re confident he will put in the work to get back on the bike as soon as he can.”

CHANCE HYMAS – KNEE

Chance Hymas 2025 High Point NationalChance Hymas was having a great season thus far, where he won the Thunder Valley National and was up front at High Point. Unfortunately, in the closing laps of the second moto at High Point, he ended up catching his knee in a rut and tearing his ACL. He also did damage to the MCL and PCL in his knee, but the clear tear was the ACL. He has undergone surgery and is on the road to recovery, but will be missing the remaining Supermotocross rounds.

GAVIN TOWERS – KNEE

Gavin Towers had stated he had been battling a knee injury for the past few months. He unfortunately ended up catching it in a rut at the High Point National which ended up tearing his ACL. He will go into surgery to get it fixed and will be missing the remaining rounds this season.

TALON HAWKINS – FEMUR/RETIREMENT

Talon Hawkins had a scary crash at the San Diego Supercross when he attempted to seat bounce into one of the larger rhythm sections, sending him off the back of the bike and on the ground hard. As a result, he ended up breaking his femur. Talon has stated recently that he will be stepping away from racing and will start the next chapter of his life.

CAMERON MCADOO – KNEE

Cameron McAdoo aggravated his pre-season knee injury midway through the Supercross season. He sat out the entirety of motocross, and there’s no clear indication he will be returning for Supermotocross.

Cameron McAdoo hurt his knee prior to the Supercross season starting. He decided to ride and was actually one of the top riders in the class each week, but realized that it was in his best interest to get it fixed. He will be out for the remainder of the year.
