2025 LAS VEGAS SMX FINALE PRE-RACE REPORT

The 2025 Las Vegas SMX finale is officially here, and it’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the end of the 31-race “SuperMotocross” Championship. The name still hasn’t caught on with us, but the drama from St. Louis definitely ramped up the excitment going into the final round of the season. In the 450 class, it’s a battle of the brothers. Jett and Hunter are first and second, once again, going into the finale, and barring any unforeseen crashes or bike malfunctions, it looks like the Lawrence family will be leaving Las Vegas, $1.5 million richer.

250 CLASS DRAMA: DEEGAN VS. SHIMODA

2025 SMX St. Louis_Haiden Deegan-2151This is a view we expect to see a lot of in Las Vegas. The big question is, will Haiden take out Jo to ensure he doesn’t place second?

Haiden Deegan looked to be on track to win his third 250 SMX title in a row (sweeping the 250 titles in the first three years of SMX), but Levi Kitchen made his life much harder when he slammed into Haiden on the first lap of moto 2 in St. Louis. Haiden is fast enough, and the 20-minute races are long enough, that he probably could have made his way back through the field to salvage a better finish, but he only managed to get to 14th place because he was riding with a broken front brake lever. Haiden ended up with 1-14 moto scores, giving him sixth overall in St. Louis. He needed just one more position to earn fifth overall and greatly improve his title chances in Las Vegas. A fifth overall would’ve put him eight points behind Jo going into the finale, which, with triple points on the line, would’ve made it a winner-take-all situation at the finale. However, because he is 10 points behind Jo, even if he wins in Las Vegas, Jo can finish second and win the 250 SMX title by one point.

2025 SMX St. Louis Jo Shimoda podiumJo Shimoda’s 2-2 scores in St. Louis, while riding under the weather, were good enough to give him first overall and the point lead going into Las Vegas.
