The YZ450F owners manual is confusing on oil quantities, it gives three different values: 1 quart for periodic changes; 1.06 quarts with oil filter replacement and 1.27 quarts for the total amount. What is total amount? And how does it differ from the other two?
The YZ450F owners manual is confusing on oil quantities, it gives three different values: 1 quart for periodic changes; 1.06 quarts with oil filter replacement and 1.27 quarts for the total amount. What is total amount? And how does it differ from the other two?
This is easily explained. You only need one quart of oil when you are just changing the oil, but not the oil filter, because a small quantity of oil stays in the oil filter cavity. When you change the oil and the oil filter you need to add more oil, but since you didn’t flush the cases there is still some oil left in the nooks and crannies of the engine castings. A total change, which includes flushing the cases, will require 1.27 quarts of oil.
