• 2024 DUBYA WORLD VET CHAMPIONSHIP TO AIR ON MAV-TV ON TUESDAY, JAN. 14 at 5:00 P.M. (Eastern)

If you couldn’t make it to the 2024 Dubya  World Vet Motocross Championship at Glen Helen Raceway, you missed two days full of incredible races, with 1200 riders from 24 different countries on a very long and challenging racetrack that consisted of five major hills, with lap times varying from 2:45 for the Pros to over 4 minutes for the older age groups.

Over-30 Pro winner Phil Nicoletti (29) is going up while everyone else is coming down. The track was rough. How do we know? This was the smooth section. Photo by Debbi Tamietti

Now, just for those of you who were too young, live too far away, couldn’t afford the gas to drive to SoCal, were stuck in a snowstorm or have it on youe bucket list ffo the future, here is youe chance to live it like you were there. Mav-TV will air a giant recap of all the important moments on January 14, 2025 at five o’clock. You can’t use a snowstorm as an excuse this time.

Only at Glen Helen is the racetrack so long, so hilly, so serpentine that there are optical illusions that show riders going both ways on the same section of the two-mile long track.

• ANAHEIM 1 TRACK MAP: FROM THE SPLIT START TO THE DAISY CHAIN TRACK DESIGN

This is the January 11 Anaheim 1 Supercross track. Not a lot of wheels on the ground sections, but unlimited rhythm sections and a split start .

The first Anaheim looks to be a long technical course with many different passing opportunities. Notably one of the main factors of this year’s track is the split start. It will be interesting to see the distance between the rollers in the center and if riders will be jumping across the straight. Again the nine whoop rule is put in place as well as a sand corner which has been known to be challenging for the riders. Were set to go racing on what looks to be a great Anaheim 1

MATTERLY GP INTERMEDIATE TERRAIN TIRES (FRONT AND REAR)

The Matterly GP Intermediate tire is named after the iconic British Grand Prix track Matterly Basin in Winchester, Engand, where the soil is a classic blend of soft, loamy over and hard base ground. Engineered with precision and passion, this tire is uses Lateral Flex Control (LFC) technology in the carcass design, along with high-grade race polyester for a lightweight and heat-resistant structure. The 110/90-19 rear tire retails for $115.00, while the 80/100-21 front sells for $94.99. For more info go to www.riskracing.com or (704) 508-1031.

HAWKSTONE GP SOFT TERRAIN TIRE (REAR ONLY)

The Hawkstone GP soft terrain tire is named after Hawkstone Park, one of the world’s oldest and most famous sand tracks, located in Shropshire, England. It id designed to be the ultimate soft terrain tire engineered for domination on deep sand and mud terrain, thanks to LFC Technology (Lateral Flex Control) and Plews’ block supporting bracing technology which helps combat unwanted flex and roll in the tread on the 19.5mm tall knobs. The Hawkstone is only available for the rear wheel. The 110/90-19 retails for $115.49. For more info go to www.riskracing.com or call (704) 508-1031.

FOXHILLS GP HARD TERRAIN TIRES (FRONT AND REAR)

The MX3 Foxhills GP tires are the ultimate hard terrain tire designed to dominate the most demanding tracks like the iconic British Foxhill s track in Swindon, England. Engineered for super hard-pack tracks that are fast and stoney. The Foxhills GP feature an Asymmetric Tread Design to enhance traction on hard terrain. This is in addition to a larger surface area on the tread blocks for more grip. The rubber compound is developed using military-spec compounds and ward off chipping and chunking for a longer tread life. The 110/90-19 retails for $121.19, while the 80/100-21 front sells for $94.99. For more info go to www.riskracing.com or call (704) 508-1031.

Val Tamietti (31) was a Maico-sponsored rider during his Saddleback and Carlsbad days, but  like many old Pros from the 1970s and 1980s he is now a Glen Helen Specialist. Unfortunately, Val was seriously injured in  practice crash a week ago.

Val Tamietti on the cover of Cycle News in April of 1977.

Over the Christmas and New Year’s break, Val Tamietti (31) and Marc Crosby (53) were injured in a practice crash that collected both of them when an inexperienced rider stopped on top of the blind tabletop that connects the canyon straight to the front portion of the Saturday track. Even though people were yelling at the rider to move, he sat there until Val and Marc jumped the tabletop, with Val landing on the rider and being catapaulted down the hill, while Marc Crosby missed hitting the rider, but collided into Val Tamietti’s fallen bike on the down slope.

Val is a two-time Glen Helen number 1 rider and a former CMC number 1 rider at Saddleback. In the practice crash Val suffered a serious concussion (with a brain bleed), broken spinal appendages, a cracked pelvis and a lacerated bladder. He is still in the hospital after several surgeries and faces a long recovery.

Marc Crosby (53) got a concussion and broken hand in the crash. Marc sawed the cast off his hand on Monday and went back to work as the “Dentist to the Stars” on Tuesday. Racing is safer than practicing.

We know that both Val and Marc will be back to racing as soon as they heal up. Take the time to heal completely boys. There are a lot of races on the 2025 schedule.
