Jett Lawrence led Team Australia to their first-ever victory in Australia’s 40 years of competing in the MXDN. Jett Lawrence went 1-2 in the Open class, while aided by Hunter Lawrence’s 8-4 in the 450 class and Kyle Webster’s 11-19 in the 250 class. Team USA shocked the European crowd by finishing second overall with a team that was a patchwork quilt of fill-in riders. Eli Tomac went 2-3 in the Open class, Aaron Plessinger went 7-8 in the 450 class and Cooper Webb went 9-17 in the 250 class. Team Holland was third overall thanks to solid scores by Jeffrey Herlings (5-5), Kay de Wolf (6-5) and Glenn Coldenhoff (15 -1. Team Spain was fourth, their hopes diminished in no small amount by Jorge Prado’s troubles when it rains. Prado went 4-14, Ruben Fernandez went 2-4 and Oriol Oliver went 14-26. Each team was allowed to drop its worst score—which meant that Team Australia dropped Kyle Webster 19th, Team USA dropped Cooper Webb’s 17th, Holland dropped Glenn Coldenhoff’s 18th and Team Spain dropped Oriol Oliver’s 26th.
