GARRETT MARCHBANKS INTERVIEW: “WE HAVE SOME NEWS COMING OUT SOON”

I first met Garrett Marchbanks back in 2018 as a rising pro rookie riding for the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki team. Although Garrett was fast, injuries would slow his career path, yet he still took the 2019 250 Supercross Rookie of the Year title. Marchbanks later lost his contract with Mitch Payton and went to the privateer Club MX/FXR/Yamaha team, where he competed in both the 250 and 450 classes—many feel that with Garrett’s size, he may be best suited for a 450. However, returning to Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki for the second time in 2025, the Utah native has proven he can succeed in the 250 class. Maybe somewhat attributed to his size, Garrett’s starts have been terrible, but it’s amazing how many riders he passes during a moto! With his first motocross podium at Washougal and his impressive fourth at Ironman, Garrett currently holds a healthy third in the 250 Motocross Championship standings. Garrett Marchbanks’ name may have been questioned by some this summer, but not by himself. His racecraft, fitness, and determination have proven to be the perfect combination—and he’s one of the most approachable riders in the pro pits!

Garrett Marchbanks_2025 Red Bud NationalGarrett has always been a frontrunner, but his first overall motocross podium came this year at Washougal.

LET’S BEGIN WITH WASHOUGAL, WHERE YOU TOOK YOUR FIRST-EVER PODIUM IN MOTOCROSS. It was my first-ever outdoor podium, and it felt great. I’ve always wanted to get one and have been close many times. At Washougal, I’ve always struggled, so to finally put it together at one of my least favorite tracks was really exciting. Now, I’d have to say it’s become one of my more favorite ones after that. It’s been nice to have a little break afterward, regroup with some things, and get ready to get back after it.

Garrett is currently third in points, which would be his best series finish thus far in his career.

I DON’T KNOW IF “OVERLOOKED” IS THE RIGHT WORD, BUT IT SEEMS LIKE YOU QUIETLY HAVE MOVED INTO THIRD IN THE 250 MOTOCROSS STANDINGS. It has been great for me. My goal for this summer was just to be a consistent top-five guy. Obviously, I wanted to be top five in points all year, but I didn’t really know how to approach outdoors. I’ve always been a competitor, and I’ve wanted to win races and win titles, but I’ve never finished an outdoor season strong or been very consistent. I was in third for most of the series, dropped back to fifth at one point, and then worked my way back into third. It’s been good so far. I’m very happy with my finishes and how I’ve been riding. I just have to keep working at it.

Garrett Marchbanks_2025 Red Bud NationalGarrett also sits third in the SMX overall standings which could end in a good pay day if he is able to maintain that position or move forward.

I DON’T KNOW THIS AS FACT, BUT IT IS MY IMPRESSION THAT YOU CAME INTO THIS YEAR WITH A ONE-YEAR DEAL WITH PRO CIRCUIT. SO, IT IS INTERESTING TO ME THAT YOU ARE THE TOP-FINISHING PRO CIRCUIT GUY IN 250 MOTOCROSS POINTS. I HAVE TO IMAGINE THAT THIS BODES WELL FOR NEXT YEAR. Yes, I believe so. We have some news coming out soon. We figured some things out during the break and got some things finalized. The news will be coming out shortly, and I’m looking forward to it.

Many questioned if he would continue his ride with Pro Circuit for 2026 as his contract expired this year, and there was no confirmation of him resigning but it seems that they may have worked out a deal.
