If it wasn’t for bad luck, former National and Supercross Champion Jeff Emig wouldn’t have any luck at all. While practicing at Glen Helen Raceway on Thursday, May 4, Jeff came off his YZ250 and was taken by ambulance to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, California.
A witness said it appeared that Jeff’s throttle stuck forcing him to jump away from the motorcycle while 15 to 20 feet in the air and that he landed hard on his feet. Emig suffered a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula in his left leg and damaged his number two lumbar vertebrae. His leg was operated on Friday and his L2 vertebrae was fused on Saturday. There is no paralysis, but Emig will miss the rest of the 2000 season.
