MOTOCROSS ACTION MID-WEEK REPORT

#WHIPITWEDNESDAY

Rider: Heath Voss

Heath Voss enjoyed a lengthy career with numerous highlights, one of which was his time with factory Yamaha and clinching the 2004 FIM THQ World Supercross GP championship. Winning this title secured him a position at Yamaha in 2005, teaming up with Chad Reed and David Vuillemin. He continued his association with Yamaha in 2006. Unfortunately, after sustaining a knee injury at the Houston Supercross in 2010, Voss decided to retire.

TWO-STROKE SPOTLIGHT: PAUL HOLLYWOODS KX500 TRANSFORMATION BUILD

“I’ve recently completed a build of my KX500. The foundation of the build is a perimeter frame from a 1990 KX250 chassis, but it’s been equipped with a 1998 KX500 engine. To my surprise, the construction was simpler than anticipated. The engine seamlessly fits into the frame without any alterations. The only modifications required were to shift the cylinder head stay bracket from the rear to the front of the cylinder head and reposition the coolant hose from the cylinder’s side to its rear. This adjustment was essential to provide clearance for the lowboy exhaust pipe.”

“As for the suspension, Krooztune took charge and rebuilt it and gave the forks and shock a Kashima coat. Russell Lundberg Racing overhauled the engine, and they made use of brand-new OEM parts for the task. Sam meticulously tightened all-wheel spokes, the Spokesman Traini. Additionally, the bike boasts UFO plastics, graphics, a seat cover by Evo-MX, and an exhaust system from KX500 Tech. LA Designs expertly handled the frame painting and engine Cerakoting. Riding this KX500 is an absolute joy. It’s nimble and takes turns with precision. This is the bike Kawasaki should have introduced back in 1990!”

QUOTE OF THE WEEK // CHASE SEXTON ON MINIMIZING MISTAKES

Chase Sexton 2023 Washougal National-1133

Still keeping a positive outlook on the improvements I’m making every week.

MXA DATA ANALYSIS

In the races that Jett Lawrence and Chase Sexton both competed in ( as Chase missed a few rounds ), we look into the data behind their best lap times—taking the overall best lap times of the two riders from each moto and comparing them for an overall average amongst these races. We find that Chase’s times are not that far off overall and shows that consistency is on Jett’s side rather than being so much faster.

Race 1: Jett was quicker by 0.536 seconds. Race 2: Jett edged out by 1.525 seconds. Race 3: The lead for Jett was 0.701 seconds. Race 4: This was close! Jett was only faster by 0.097 seconds. Race 5: Jett led by 1.211 seconds. Race 6* Jett was faster by 0.416 seconds.Chase Sexton 2023 Washougal National-9062 Combining these differences, we have 0.536 + 1.525 + 0.701 + 0.097 + 1.211 + 0.416 = 4.486 seconds in total over the six races. We do some simple math and divide by six to get the average: 4.486 seconds / 6 = 0.748 seconds. This means, when averaged out over these races, Jett Lawrence’s best lap times are typically around 0.748 seconds faster than that of Chase Sexton, regardless of the track they’re racing on.
