MOTOCROSS ACTION MID-WEEK REPORT

#WHIPITWEDNESDAY

Rider: Tim Ferry

In 2007, Tim Ferry was selected to represent the United States at the Motocross Des Nations, held at Budds Creek by our Nation’s Capital. Paired up with Ryan Villopoto and Ricky Carmichael, the team dominated the weekend by not being out of the top five in a single Moto. Villopoto notably won the MX1 class on a 250f that year. Tim Kept racing until 2009 and now can still be seen at the races with his son Evan.

CONGRATULATION TO TEAM FRANCE FOR ITS  MOTOCROSS DES NATIONS VICTORY

Team France won the 2023 Motocros Des Nation with dominant fashion on their home turf in Ernee, France.  A team consisting of Tom Vialle, Maxime Renaux, and Romaine Febvre won the first two motos and safely solidified it in the third. All three riders had come off great seasons in their respective classes and proved to be the best overall team for the 2023 racing year.

Team United States struggled with the slick and poorly prepped conditions. In the first moto, Aaron Plessinger put in a great result with a fifth right behind Swiss rider Jeremy Sewer and German rider Ken Roczen. Still, unfortunately for teammate RJ Hampshire, he found himself on the ground and a result of sixteenth in the moto. RJ would rebound in moto two as he would grab the holeshot but again slide out and give up the lead positions. RJ would fight back for tenth in the moto. Teammate Christian Craig would struggle back in the sixteenth position. For moto three, results would not improve for the United States as Craig and Plessinger would result in eighteenth and twentieth positions. Always something to note it is never easy traveling to another country to race. It was nice to have a team out there representing the United States.

Ken Roczen and Jett Lawrence’s duel continued from Supermotocross directly into the Motocross Des Nations. Roczen put on an amazing ride and took the moto one and moto two scores combined for the overall. Being a team event, Roczen did all he could for the weekend, but they would fall short and end up fourth behind France, Australia, and Italy. Jett Lawrence and team Australia had a good chance for the final overall, but a scary crash for teammate Dean Ferris hurt their chances. They still were able to rebound and take home second place and the final result.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: MXDN STRUGGLES

Rj Hampshire 2023-Thunder-Valley-National-9398

“I felt really good on the bike for how gnarly the track was. I needed some luck and I just didn’t have it today. First moto, I got cleaned out the first lap with a decent start, and second moto, got in a first turn pile-up. You’re going to get everything I have and that was it the second moto, but like I said, I felt really good”

Motocross Action photo of Ben Townley at the Glen Helen National in 2008. Ben only raced a few events in 2008 to fill in for the factory Honda team. Ben would return in 2010 and place fourth overall in the series.

MXA Trivia answer: Andrew Short. In 2009 Andrew Short did six races for the Pro Circuit Kawasaki team as a trial run to see if he get a full-time ride.
