MXA TEAM TESTED: TWIN AIR LIQUID BIO POWER AIR FILTER OIL

WHAT IS IT? Twin Air is known for its original foam air filter, Bio air filter oil, Ice Flow coolant, high-pressure radiator caps, and, of course, air filter cleaning and care products. Twin Air’s Liquid Bio Power Air filter oil is a second-generation upgrade of the original Liquid Power Air filter oil.

WHAT STANDS OUT? Here’s a list of things that stand out with the Twin Air Liquid Bio Air filter oil.

(1) History. In 1972 Bob Tuin gave the motocross world an extraordinary new product: a flame-laminated, dual-layer foam air filter that when soaked in special oil allowed air to flow freely into the carburetor with better protection than the subpar paper air filters that came on the motocross bikes of the time. Bob was a former Dutch National racer, and when he founded the company, he originally called it “Tuin Air.” On a trip to the USA in 1972 to show off his unique foam air filters, he found that the American riders could not pronounce his Dutch last name. Every time they said “Tuin,” it came out “Twin,” and they started calling him “Mr. Twin Air.” So, he changed the product’s name, and JT Racing became the first American importer. Twin Air has supported over 300 World Champions over the last 50 years. 

(2) Bio. Why reformulate a filter oil that already works well? Twin Air’s goal with the Bio air filter oil was to simplify the cleaning process. The original Liquid Power air filter oil was designed to be cleaned with Twin Air’s Filter Clean and then disposed of properly. The new-generation Liquid Bio Power filter oil can be cleaned with any filter-cleaning product and washed down the sink safely. 

(3) Options. Twin Air offers two versions of this oil: a 1-liter bottle or the 500ml spray can. MXA test riders prefer the 1-liter bottle so that we can properly distribute the oil on the filter. The spray version works well, too, especially when you’re oiling your filter on the go at the track. 

(4) Application. This may sound silly to some, but Twin Air Liquid Bio Power filter oil is not only for Twin Air filters. It can be safely used with stock filters and other air filter brands. Of course, Twin Air offers pre-oiled filters, and those come pre-packaged with 1 ounce of oil evenly distributed on the foam; however, we’ve seen the machines they use to distribute the oil in Holland, and we don’t have anything like it in our garages. We prefer to use Twin Air’s oiling bucket to oil the filter. Then, whatever extra oil didn’t get used will be left inside the bucket for the next oiling.

WHAT’S THE SQUAWK? No squawk. Air, fuel and spark are what make an engine sing. We want our engines to breathe as well as possible.
