• “SATURDAY AT THE GLEN” WORLD VET WARM-UP RACE THIS SATURDAY OCT. 26
Glen Helen is gearing up for the 2024 Dubya World Vet Motocross Championship, which was started back in 1985 by Tom White, it is the longest running Vet Championship in the sport. To help riders from foreign countries and other States, who have never been to Glen Helen before, there will be two chances to learn the ins and outs of Glen Helen’s unique dirt and layout before the actual race weekend.
Glen Helen is famous for its big hills, long start, and smooth as glass track—well, maybe smooth isn’t the right word. Be prepared for big bumps and never-ending small squared-edge ones.
The first chance comes this Saturday when the weekly “Saturday at the Glen” races move to the Glen Helen National track for a quick warm-up race for all the classes.
The first turn is a steeply banked 180-degree roundhouse that the riders get to at 70 mph. Luckily, it is more than wide enough to accommodate everyone.
This Saturday’s warm-up race is followed by a Friday, November 1, practice session on the actual World Vet layout. It is open to riders who are already entered (and if you aren;t you can sign up at the track on Friday. To learn more or to sign-up go to www.glenhelen.com.
• MXA VIDEO: 2025 YAMAHA YZ250F FIRST RIDE
The 2025 Yamaha YZ250F is officially here and the MXA wrecking crew spent multiple days testing on it to give you this Tested video. The main focus for 2025 was the suspension, the YZ250F has revised settings with an updated rear linkage, new valving front and rear, along with a lighter spring rate on the rear shock and new delta-shaped piston shims in the fork for enhanced stability, traction and a more planted front-end feel. The other updates are harder to notice, but the new model does come with a new map switch, a new throttle tube, and new foot peg mounts. Retailing for $8899, the 2025 YZ250F is always a force to be reckoned with in the 250 class.
• MXA AD OF THE WEEK—1980 AMA 500 NATIONAL CHAMPION CHUCK SUN’S GEAR
Chuck Sun gear was not an instant hit on the motocross circuit back in the 1980s, but it would be really neat to have stored a couple sets away 40 years ago to wear today. Especially the metallic silver stuff.

• THE GREATEST DEAL IN MOTOCROSS: REAL WORDS, LARGER PHOTOS, MORE TECH DETAILS, STUFF NO ONE ELSE TELLS YOU & YOU GET A $25 ROCKY MOUNTAIN CREDIT CARD

Additionally, there is a interview with Warren Reid and a close-up look at Roger DeCoster’s last Honda RC500—not just the last time he raced a Honda, but the last time he won a Grand Prix.
Did you know that it couldn’t be easier or cheaper to subscribe to MXA than it is right now—because when you subscribe you receive a Rocky Mountain ATV/MC credit for $25 towards anything in their massive inventory, all at no cost to you. Plus, you will get all the content in the 12 monthly issues of Motocross Action magazine delivered to your home by a uniformed U.S. government employee. And that isn’t all that is in the October 2024 Issue of MXA, but we have to leave some surprises for when your new issue hits your mailbox. Don’t forget, the $25 credit from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC means that you get a subscription for MXA at a giant discount. Are you smart enough to recognize a great deal when you see it? • THIS WEEK IN MXA WITH JOSH MOSIMAN:” GLEN HELEN’S $100,000 MOTOFEST
This Week in MXA is all about the new Glen Helen MotoFest happening May 15-18 of 2025. Yes, it’s a long way out, but Bud Feldkamp, the owner of Glen Helen Raceway, wants you to mark your calendar for the weekend break between the Salt Lake City Supercross and the Fox Raceway National.
What is the MotoFest? It’s a four-day festival-style event to be held annually on the weekend immediately before round one of the outdoor Pro Nationals. The event starts with the “Stopwatch National” on Thursday the 15th with a combined 250/450 Pro class, with two 30-minute motos and a $10,000 purse. Friday will be the amateur TT Scrambles race. Saturday will be the motocross race on the main track, featuring the Privateer Pro showcase with 250 and 450 classes for privateers only, battling for $20,000 in purse money ($10,000 each class) and a combined $80,000 in sponsorship money, to be paid out to the top two 250 and top two 450 overall finishes on the day as sponsorship. • WERE YOU A SADDLEBACK SPECIALIST IN 1982? SEE WHO ELSE WAS
There is no time capsule as scary as a results sheet — like this one from Saddleback Park on February 2, 1982. That was 35 years ago. Look at it carefully to see these 12 pertinent facts.
(1) Tony Alessi was racing the Mini Junior class. Thayne Zito won.
(2) Mark Toyama won the Mini Intermediates in front of Steve Skibell.
(3) Paul Denis, Kurtie Henricksen and Todd Campbell were the Mini Experts that day.
(4) Did you see J. Bacon in the 125 Junior class. That’s Jim “Bones” Bacon. Also, the 19th place rider is former Yamaha team manager Jimmy Perry.
(5) The 125 Intermediate class was packed with Rob Engel, Michael Horton (now Michele Horton), Ty Swartz, Gary Renko and Jody Weisel (he was already 35-years-old back then).
(6) That’s Rusty Hannah winning the 250 Intermediates not Bob Hannah.
(7) Frank Thomason, the former REM promoter, was fifth in the 500 Junior class.
(8) The 125 Pro class was won by Mike Beier, Doug O’Donnell was third, Tony Gomez 11th, Ray Tetherton 12th and Doug Dubach 13th.
(9) Matt Tedder was third in the 250 Pro class with Steve Pfaff fourth, Glen Senecal 12th and Monte Roy 17th.
(10) Bruce McDougal won the 500 Pro class with Frank Steiner second, Jimmy Roy fourth (Jimmy and his brother Monte would go on to lasting fame as the Floyd Brothers in countless Jody’s Box columns), Carl Gazafy was fifth and Brian Fry seventh.
(11) Recognize anyone else? We see Scott Slayton, Joe Melton and Art Oliver (dog not listed).
(12) Even though these results are 42 years old — here is a quick list of the 13 riders still racing today (5 of the 13 came from Saddleback’s 125 Intermediate class): Rob Engel, Steve Pfaff, Ty Swartz, Michael Horton, Gary Renko, Jody Weisel, Frank Thomason, Doug Dubach, Matt Tedder, Carl Gazafy and Joe Melton.
