• THE GREATEST DEAL IN MOTOCROSS: REAL WORDS, LARGE PHOTOS, MORE TECH & A $25 ROCKY MOUNTAIN CREDIT
This is the May 2025 cover of MXA. Inside are indepth tests of the 2025 Beta 450RX, 2025 -1/2 Husqvarna FC450 Factory Edition, 2025 GasGas MC250F, plus, four home-built Works Edition including an unobtainable Fantic XX300 two-stroke (on the cover), a KX450 that reimagined the 2025 KX450 Special Racer with different components than the ones Kawasaki chose, the GasGas MC85 that carried Dane Pappas to the 85cc (13-15) Mini Sr. 2 title at Loretta Lynn’s and the personal YZ250F of ETS Fuels’ Kyle Moose, built with an unlimited budget that totaled up to $28,000 (also on the cover).
The May issue also went inside the KTM Junior Supercross Challenge at the San Diego Supercross, where we followed the son of Manfred Edlinger, the head of R&D for KTM’s motocross division, from the time he got off the plane from Austria until 8-year-old Raphy Edlinger raced under the lights, in front of 40,000 American fans. If that’s not enough, with the news that Kawasaki intends introduce a two-stroke in 2026, we went back into the MXA archives to a test of the last Kawasaki KX250 two-stroke that Kawasaki made before pulling out of two-stroke back in 2007. You find it to be enlightening.

• PHOTOS FROM THE LOST &FOUND OF THE 2025 WORLD TWO-STROKE CHAMPIONSHIP: SURGERY FIRST, PHOTOS 9-DAYS LATER.
Australian motocross racer Dan Alamangos came to the 2025 World Two-Stroke Championship to shoot photos for MXA and to race the Over-60 Expert class.
Unfortunately, on the first lap of his race, the guy in front of Dan on the steep and fast Mt. Saint Helen downhill swapped in front of him, blocking any escape route for Dan, who hit the fallen bike and ended up under his own bike.
The ambulance brought him back to the pits and after checking Dan out, they said it would okay for one of his friends to drive him to the hospital, but not to waste any time. MXA asked Mark Chilson and Mike Monagahan to get Dan to Loma Linda Hospital as fast as possible. It turned out that Dan had suffered internal injuries, most likely from being speared by his own handlebars. They operated on Dan that afternoon to close to two bleeders, but kept him overnight, without closing the surgical wound, so they could look deeper into his colon and intestines the next day. Dan was in the hospital for nine days total, while the doctor performed several procedures that include inserting a tube down his nose to find out why he was throwing up water. Finally on the ninth days, Jody and better half came to Loma Linda and took Dan back to their house, where he previously stayed with them while recovering from Covid, and stayed again with them when he broke his leg badly (in a workshop accident).
During his recovery period at Jody’s house, Dan took walks around the one-acre yard, which is where Mike Monaghan had parked Dan’s van. In his van Dan found his camera, which he had only used during the first few motos on Saturday before his Over-60 Expert race came up. Jody downloaded Dan’s photos so he could see what he had shot—and then selected a few to run in “Rumors, Gossip & Unfounded Truths.” Here are Dan’s lost and found photos from the 2025 World Two-Stroke Championship. Dan will fully recover and until he’s ready to ride again, he can shoot photos, take up surfing or go visit his brother Chris in Texas. Enjoy!
Jeff Emig (47) finished third in the Pasha Over-50 125 Pro class behind Doug Dubach and Kurt Nicoll on a Husqvarna TC150.
Dereck Drake (80) was a ball of fire at the 16th Annual World Two-Stroke Championship, the former KTM factory racer ran away from the Open Pro class on a borrowed Yamaha YZ250. In the second moto he build up a large lead until his YZ250 gave up the ghost.
Sean Lipanovich (505) holeshot four different motos during the day—earning $600 in holeshot money. Here, he leads Ryan Morais (116) and Steven Tokarsky (710) through a sandy corner in the 125 Pro class.
Dutch racer Ralf Schmit (73) used to be the American TM importer, but somehow Dan Alamangos ended up getting a photo of Ralf racing a Pro Circuit Yamaha. We are almost positive that Ralf mistook the blue and white YZ for a blue and white TM.
If you want to win bad enough, you takes big chances, get out of control and are forced to save it. Josh Mosiman (171) almost threw his Pasha 125 Pro victory away early in the first moto. Josh eventually took the 125 Pro win and the $2500 first prize. Steven Tokarski (710) was second overall.
They may say that “rubbin’ is racing,” but they don’t mean rubbing your right arm on the tractor tires marking the hairpin corners. Carson Brown (910) left himself a half inch of clearance in this corner.
Ayrton Ward had bike troubles in practice and asked Jody if he could borrow MXA’s 2025 YZ125. Jody said, “It’s okay with me, but you have to ask Dan because we gave it to him for today.” Dan said, “No troubles.”
Ryan Morais (116) won the Pasha Over-30 125 Pro class. Under World Two-Strokes rules, 150cc two-stroke are legal in the 125 class. Why? Because so many riders showed up with KTM 150SX in the past that the promoters were faced with lots of protest. It was simpler to raise the displacement limit to 150 than to tear-down 100 bikes. Surprisingly, the 125 classes are often won by riders on 125s.
Carson Brown (91) broke his rear brake in a second turn collision in the second Open Pro moto, yet managed to finished second overall with the 2-4 score.
Josh Mosiman had won the first moto in the 125 Pro class for three straight years, but always ended up having issues in the second moto. So, this year he played it cool. He started about sixth in each moto and them picked off the five guys in front of him before the checkers came out. In the second moto, he did the same thing, but when Brandon Ray caught him with one lap to go, Josh let him go by midway around the last lap because Brandon had DNF’ed moto one.
This is the Conga Line in the Pasha 125 Over-50 Pro class. Jeff Emig (47) leads Kurt Nicoll (2), Doug Dubach (15) and Alan Jullien (7). Dubach took the win, Nicoll was second and Emig third.
