The Sweepers Dominate REM Glen Helen

Josh Brown (133) defeated Kyle Partridge and Tony Amaradio in the 450 Pro class.

The REM track was very tricky this past weekend for the start of the Summer Series. This week’s event was sponsored by Troy Lee Designs, which supplied free food, drinks and prizes for the REM racers. The serpentine course started with an “almost” figure-8 start, then climbed the left side of Mt. Whitney, but instead of coming back down, went across the ridge and down the backside. The hidden back straight consisted a series of nasty left/right/left turns that were chopped to pieces. The high summer temps, rough track and aggressive competition results in a host of close battles.

Ray Pisarski (61) leads White Brother founder Tom White (80) at the base of Mt. Whitney.

But for a few it was a day to sweep the competition. There is nothing as sweet as going 1-1 and that feat was accomplished by Nigel Crosby (85 Beginner), Brent Brady (65 Advanced), Ryan Surratt (85 Junior), Dennis McAdam (Over-50 Intermediate), Willie Amaradio (Over-50 Master), Bill Maxim (Over-60 Master), James Faucette (250F Beginner), Bruce Rutherford (250F Intermediate), Willie Surratt (Vet Pro), Larry Brooks (Over-40 Master), Chuck Murphy (Over-40 Intermediate) and Brandon Brady (450 Intermediate).

REM racers only used the left side of Mt. Whitney. Once at the top they turned right and raced across the ridge.

THE ALMOST SWEEPS AND ALMOST WINS

Josh Brown won the 450 Pro class with a 2-1 over Kyle Partridge (4-2), Tony Amaradio (1-6), Phil Thorstensen (5-4), Matt Vanderwater (6-3) and Sean Kranyak (8-5).

This is the second turn of the start, you can see the fourth turn of the start in the background. The riders almost did a figure 8 before entering the race track.

Bob Weber used a baseball score to win the Vet Intermediate class. Bob’s 2-3 was the highest score to win an overall this weekend. Bob beat Greg Pierce’s 5-1, Guy Giffin’s 3-5, Bret Milan’s 6-2, Mike McGregor’s 7-6, Steve Phillips 8-7 and John Barry’s 9-8. Troy Lee won the first moto, but was 18th in moto two.

Tony Amaradio’s (130) second moto sixth cost him the overall in the 450 Pro class, but he won the first moto.

Riders who went 2-1 had good days with winners Lucas Nastrini (450 Intermediate), Steve Kinckley (Over-50 Junior), Sam Hall (Vet Junior), Dallas Leedom (85 Intermediate) and Dylan Lesovsky (125 two-stroke) all with an identical 2-1’s.

REM races again next Saturday. For info go to www.remsatmx.com
