2004 WORLD SX SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED–JULY 24

The FIM, Abbott to the AMA’s Costello, has announced its 17-round 2004 Supercross World Championship. Only two of the World Championship rounds will be held anywhere in the world that isn’t on a U.S. Postal Service route. The remaining 15 rounds will be held at the AMA Supercross Championship.

WHO WON LAST YEAR?

Last year only Team Yamaha raced the full 17-race series (last year with Chad Reed eventually winning the World title to virtually no fanfare). Without Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart, the World Supercross series will have a tough time being taken seriously. It would take major up front money to get RC to agreed to race in Spain and Holland in December. Without Ricky or Stewart, the only way for the FIM World Championship series to succeed is for a rider who goes to Spain or Holland to beat Ricky or James for the AMA title.
Daytona is a part of the AMA series, but not a part of the FIM series.
