2024 BUDDS CREEK NATIONAL PRE-RACE REPORT: INJURED LIST, TV SCHEDULE & MORE
Back racing again this week just outside our nation’s capitol at Budds Creek for the tenth round of the motocross series. Chase Sexton leads the way over Hunter Lawrence who had a strong showing last weekend at Unadilla with 1-2 moto finishes. Eli Tomac returns to racing this weekend to battle it out with the top riders but we once again will be missing Cooper Webb after aggravating his previous injury. Ken Roczen will also be sitting out this weekend as he prepares to race the 250 Class at Ironman. Speaking of the 250 class, Haiden Deegan has a large enough lead in points to wrap up the championship this weekend if he can stay mistake-free. Levi Kitchen was the winner last weekend and is looking to finish the season strong. We will also see the return of RJ Hampshire who has been cleared to go racing. For all updates and information read down below.
2024 BUDDS CREEK NATIONAL // FULL COVERAGE
RETURNING TO ACTION
Eli Tomac Returns to racing this weekend.
Eli Tomac is one of the most dominant riders to race in the motocross series, but he missed the entire season last year with an Achilles injury, and then almost the entire season this year for a ligament tear in his thumb. Now Eli has been cleared to race and many people are eager for his return. Though from his track record, many people believe he will go out and dominate but it is not an easy job to return from injury and be the fastest. We think Eli will take things slow, and build back to speed. The goal is to get through the next few races without another injury or setback.
2024 SX WEST CHAMP RETURNS TO MOTOCROSS
RJ Hampshire has healed from his broken arm and returns to racing at Budds Creek.
RJ Hampshire had quite the Supercross season but when things switched to motocross, he found himself on the ground early. At press day for the Fox Raceway National, the first race of the motocross season, Rj hit a rock that was on the track and was sent to the ground hard. As a result, he was left with a badly broken arm that took him out for the majority of the season. He recently was cleared to ride and will be returning for the last two races to build back to race speed.
INJURY REPORT
JO SHIMODA – COLLARBONE
Jo Shimoda went down hard while battling for the lead at Unadilla. As a result of the crash, Jo sustained a broken collarbone and will sit out the remaining rounds.
Jo Shimoda states: “It felt great to be upfront and battling for the lead, but unfortunately the battle didn’t end the way we wanted it to. I ended up with a broken collarbone, and I’ll have to get a plate put in. Obviously, that’s not how we wanted the day to go, but we’ll come back stronger once I’m healed.”
JETT REYNOLDS–COLLARBONE
Jett Reynolds broke his collarbone leading up to the Unadilla National and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season. He is looking to return as soon as possible but it is unclear on a specific date.
CASEY COCHRAN – INJURED
Casey Cochran had a violent crash at Unadilla and it is unclear if he will be racing this weekend at Budds Creek.
JUSTIN BARCIA – HAMSTRING/KNEE
Justin Barcia has been injured with a hamstring tear as well as an MCL tear in his knee. Recently Justin posted on social media that his hamstring has been healing well and if that were his only injury he could get back to riding. However, the tear in his knee has had a longer healing process. He is trying to get back to racing as soon as possible but is on a week-to-week basis due to his knee.
NATE THRASHER – COLLARBONE
Nate Thrasher will miss a few rounds due to a shoulder injury.
COOPER WEBB – THUMB
Cooper Webb aggravated his previous injury in his thumb and will sit out this weekend and likely the Ironman round as well. We will look out for his return for the SMX rounds coming up in the near future.
