2024 DALLAS SMX #2 PRE-RACE REPORT: INJURED LIST, TV SCHEDULE & MORE

On to the second round of the SMX Playoffs at Texas Motorspeedway in Dallas, TX. Last weekend in the 250 class Haiden Deegan dominated with two come-from-behind moto wins. Julien Beaumer also had an impressive ride finishing second overall, as did Jo Shimoda who is still recovering from a broken collarbone that he suffered in the outdoor season. In the 450 class, it appeared Eli Tomac was back as the dominant rider as he won the first moto with a few seconds to spare on the rest of the field. But in the second moto, Jett Lawrence found his speed and was able to run down the former champion and take the overall. Chase Sexton was consistent taking home third.

CAN JETT REPEAT LAST YEARS SUCCESS?

Jett Lawrence won the overall at Charlotte in dominant fashion.

Heading into the Dallas round the points will now be worth double the initial round at Charlotte. Jett was sitting at a bit of a deficit as he had missed the majority of the motocross season due to injury. He was able to make up quite a few points on Chase Sexton who is the current leader as he raced all Supercross and motocross rounds, but as the points begin to multiply it will be interesting to see if he has what it takes to hold on to the lead, as the hard-charging Jett Lawrence is gaining quickly.

FINDING THE RIGHT SETUP

Chase Sexton took third overall in the first round in Charlotte.

Chase Sexton has voiced his opinion on bike setup multiple times a year. It seems he likes the bike to be almost perfect in order to perform. However, he has shown tremendous speed and to note is one of the most fit riders on the track. As they swap from Supercross to motocross to SMX which is a hybrid event of the two disciplines, he again has not found the right settings that work for him. With not much time to test in between the motocross season and the SMX Playoffs, it’s in question if he will find the right settings by the end of the three rounds. Nevertheless, Chase is still one of the top performers and does have a chance to get the job done in the upcoming weeks.

INJURY REPORT

JALEK SWOLL – CONCUSSION

Jalek Swoll had a tough crash on the start of the Charlotte SMX where he was knocked out. He will miss the Dallas SMX round.

DAXTON BENNICK – HEALTH ISSUES

Daxton Bennick has been dealing with some general health issues which will leave him sidelined for the start of the SMX Series.

DYLAN SCHWARTZ – WRIST

Dylan Schwartz has had multiple wrist surgeries throughout the year, and the latest led to an infection after Washougal. The healing process has taken longer than usual causing him to sit out SMX.

BENNY BLOSS – ARM/CLAVICLE

At a practice session during the Supercross series, Liqui Moly Beta Factory rider Benny Bloss sustained a fracture to his arm and collarbone. It is unclear of his return.

Team Manager Carlen Gardner Stated:“I am super bummed for Benny. He has had a fantastic season representing the new 450 RX and we are in such a good spot with him and the bike. This sport likes to test your mental strength every day and all we can take from this situation is that we know the level Benny can get back to and better when he heals up. He will undergo needed surgery and begin the road to recovery. He will be supporting his teammate Colt over the next two rounds as we are still in full swing to better ourselves each weekend”

GUILLEM FARRES – FEMUR

Guillem suffered a broken femur while training for the Daytona Supercross, he is reportedly preparing for next season (since he didn’t earn enough points to be seeded in the SuperMotocross Finals.

Team Manager Nathan Ramsey states: “Guillem is one of the most liked riders in the industry that I have ever worked with. I am completely gutted that he had an unfortunate crash while testing at the Baker’s Factory. He is not only tough, but he is strong, and we will support him in every way to get him back at the races doing what he loves.”

AUSTIN FORKNER – BACK & SHOULDER

Austin had one of the scariest crashes we’ve seen in a while when he came up short entering a rhythm section, which knocked his hand off the bars and sent him flying onto the infield concrete. As a result, he fractured his L3-L4 in his spine as well as a fractured scapula. Fortunately, his injuries did not require surgery, and he is expected to make a full recovery. Austin Forkner is still recovering and will be sitting out the SMX Finals.

JEREMY MARTIN – COMPLICATIONS FROM HIS CRASH EARLY IN SEASON

Jeremy Martin has decided not to ride the remainder of the 250 East Supercross season due to complications from his crash at round one in Detroit. When Jeremy began training for outdoor motocross he suffered another concussion which extended his recovery time and he missed all of the motocross rounds.

Jeremy Martin states: “I am incredibly disappointed to have to make this decision but when it comes to my health and my future, it is the right move. I struggled having to tell the team, but they were completely supportive knowing everything that I have gone through.”

MAX VOHLAND – FEMUR/HIP

Max has taken a long time to off to unsure that his femur and hip heal properly. He will be back in 2025, but who he will race for has not been announced.
