450 RACE RESULTS // 2023 UNADILLA NATIONAL

The 450 class has come to a critical moment of the season. We’ve made it to round nine of the Pro Motocross series at the Unadilla National Championship with an incredible string of performances by Jett Lawrence. It has been exciting and it has been boring.  Every week the fans hope that someone can put a stop to Jett Lawrence’s dominance. It won’t stop him from winning the 450 Championships, but it would breathe some life into what has become a foregone conclusion. Heading to Unadilla, Jett led Dylan Ferrandis by 95 points and has not missed a single point this season.

Chase Sexton, the 2023 AMA Supercross Champion, has put up some great runs since coming back from a concussion, but he chases and chases Jett, always about 1.5 seconds behind the Australian and when the race looks like it’s going to heat up with an actual pass, Chase falls down. Chase is not in contention for the 2023 450 National Championship because of the races he missed early in the swason, but he is the number one rider on combined points for the SuperMotocross Play-offs — with 25 point to his credit at the first race.

450 MOTOS ONE RESULTS

Chase Sexton 2023 Washougal National-8943

The 450 Class was the first moto this PAST weekend at Unadilla. The moto started like so many others, Jett Lawrence got the holeshot, followed by Marchbanks, Sexton, Kullas, and Cianciarulo. Unfortunately, the return of Justin Barcia was derailed when he went down in a pile-up at the start.  Jett was out front looking smooth as Chase Sexton slid into second place. Jett had a two-second lead when Chase started going to work on running him down.

Through the midway mark of the moto, Jett and Chase fell into a similar pace as many of the previous rounds. Jett maintained about a second-and-a-half lead as both riders were putting down the fastest lap times of the moto. Jason Anderson, who went down in the second turn, made his way into the top ten by the ten-minute mark, where he, unfortunately, went down for a second time.

Jett, in the last ten minutes, started to stretch it out. Jett put in a couple of hot laps and stretched his lead to four seconds. Maybe Chase was holding something back for the moto two. we’ll never know because i\In the final laps, Sexton creoss-rutted as he was trying to beat a lapper into a turn, and Sexton took quite the hit. Jett would go on to win the moto.

Garrett Marchbanks started in third, where he quickly made a pass for second. After the second lap, he slid back to third, where he battled with Dylan Ferrandis, Garrett would end up going down around ten minutes in.

Dylan Ferrandis 2023 Washougal National-0958Dylan comfortably sat in third throughout the moto though he did not lose much time to the leaders. Towards the end of the moto Dylan charged to with two seconds of Jett.

450 MOTO TWO RESULTS

Jett Lawrence 2023 Hangtown National-8786

At the start of moto two, Jett Lawrence edged out Estonia rider of Harri Kullas to take the Holeshot. Jett would then start putting in the laps as Sexton moved into second, Cianciarulo into third and Anderson into fourth. Unfortunately for Ferrandis, a bad start put him at mid-pack, where he mades his way up to fifth in the first few laps. From there, he has a long road ahead to catch the leaders.

Midway through the moto Ferrandis was able to catch Anderson and make the pass into the third position. Though it was a great effort, it was far too late after his bad start, as he was more than 21 seconds off of Chase Sexton, who was in second plase. As for Chase, past the halfway point, he was unable to keep pace with Jett Lawrence. As Jett’s been doing all year, he put his head down and put in threee incredibly fast laps to get away.

Toward the end of moto two, Chase put in a late moto push. Ferreandis sat 20 seconds behind Sexton, and Anderson another 8 seconds behind him. Jett took the Unadilla overall with a 1-1 and clinched the 2023 AMA 450 National Championship, giving Honda their first premiere motocross title since Ricky Carmichael won the crown for them back in 2004.
