MXA’S WEEKEND NEWS ROUND-UP: BOGLE’S BACK & MOOKIE GETS TO STAY

JUSTIN BOGLE IS BACK IN PHOENIX

Justin Bogle has recovered from his preseason crash and will make his return to the AMA Supercross series this weekend in Phoenix for the JGRMX Autotrader Suzuki team.

MALCOLM STEWART GETS TO STAY

Malcolm StewartMalcolm Stewart has been filling in for Bogle at JGR and normally he would be given a “thank you” and a slap on the back on his way out the door, but JGR says they are trying to find the funding to keep him for the rest of the Supercross season. He will be riding for JGR on Saturday night in Phoenix.

REM GLEN HELEN MOTOCROSS ON JANUARY 27 & FEBRUARY 3; PLUS, NEW KIDS TRACK

REM will be at Glen Helen for six of the next seven weeks. There will be 34 REM races in 2018 —the next one is Saturday, January 27, the series ends on December 29, 2018. For info go to www.remsatmx.com

REM KIDS TRACK TO OPEN FOR RACING THIS SATURDAY

REM’s regular program is racing this Saturday, January 27, on the REM track, and the REM Kids track at Glen Helen Raceway will have its grand opening also. This weekend any parent racing at REM can have their son or daughter race on the REM Kids track for a special entry fee of $15. The regular entry fee for the mini racers is $25 unless one of the parents is racing the big race. REM plan to offer this discount at all REM races.

When the Kids racing is done for the day, the Kids track will be open for practice for Pee Wee, 50cc and 65cc racers. No big bikes and no 85cc bikes are allowed. The permanent fencing that separates the Kids track from the big track is not complete, but when it’s done we will be expanding the Kids track for even longer lap times. The Kids racing will take place at the same time as the regular races, so it should not impact REM’s normal finishing time. Plus, the Kids track is located within the confines of the REM track to insure that the action on the Kids track is easily visible from the pits. It is located exactly where the old Glen Helen Pee Wee track used to be, but is twice as big.

On another note, REM’s 2017 End of the Year Awards will be handed out at the February 3 race (at the riders meeting). Congrats to all of the class winners and to Val Tamietti—the new REM #1 rider.

AMA RULE OF THE WEEK: PERMANENT NUMBERS FOR 250 EAST/WEST CHAMPS

Riders who win the AMA 250 West or AMA 250 East can choose a two-digit permanent numbers. They don’t get to choose their numbers until after all the riders who finished in the top ten in overall points have chosen their permanent numbers.

It seems odd that riders who are racing in a regional series, that isn’t considered a National Championship class by the AMA, in classes that are divided into two distinct groups and race in a class that not every AMA Pro is allowed to enter, can count their regional points for any kind of AMA National number, let alone a permanent one.
