MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT BY JOHN BASHER (2/12/14)

MXA‘S PHOTO OF THE WEEK Sunset photo shoots are always a good time. Last week Daryl Ecklund and I snuck out to a secret riding spot in the desert to take photos of the 2014 Husqvarna FC250 four-stroke. We waited until the sun peaked below the faraway mountains, pulled out the strobe flashes, and went […]

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT BY DARYL ECKLUND (12/11/13)

KURT CASELLI MEMORIAL RIDE AT GLEN HELEN KC’s memorial ride day was amazing. The camaraderie and the amount of people who came to honor Kurt was surreal. A WORD ABOUT KURT CASELLI AND MXA

Godspeed! Kurt Ca selli (1983-2013). We can’t believe that we have to justify our actions in the face of the death of a f riend, but f or those who question our decision not to run the news reports of Kurt Caselli’s death on our website, we had our reasons and maybe you will understand them and maybe you won?t. MXA had a close relationship with Kurt?not just because we covered his races, did interviews, tested his bikes and had Kurt ride for our cover, but because MXA editor Daryl Ecklund was Kurt’s bes…

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT BY JOHN BASHER (10/23/13)

PHOTO OF THE WEEK     Time and again we’ve seen the aggressive riding style of so many racers become detuned when they jump to a bigger bike. Take a look at Justin Barcia, who’s not really “Bam Bam” anymore. Having said that, Ken Roczen looked like an animal on the KTM 450SXF at the Monster Cup. As you’ll see from this photo, K-Roc wasn’t scared to get down and dirty over this triple in practice. He continued to lay it flat all night long. It’s going to be an exciting 2014 Supercross seri…

See, it pays to sit in the office for a few days!     It’s a busy week at MXA . We were mired down in the office on Monday…

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT BY JOHN BASHER (6/12/13)

PHOTO OF THE WEEK     This past Thursday Yamaha invited MXA down to Huntington Beach to get a sneak peek look at the 2014 Yamaha YZ250F and YZ450F. It was exciting to find out what the blue crew had in store, especially since the YZ250F has received only minimal changes for quite a few years and the YZ450F has been lambasted by several Pro riders.     I knew about the many updates to the bikes well before the general consumer, and it was hard for me to hold my tongue. Howev…

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT BY JOHN BASHER (4/10/13)

PHOTO OF THE WEEK     The Troy Lee Designs “Press Day” at REM this past Saturday was a huge hit. Not only did the trio of Cole Seely, Jessy Nelson and Christian Craig show up to race, but there was great racing all day long. And, as you can see, spectator turnout was quite good. ROBBY BELL’S SCORE SAN FELIPE 250 RACE REPORT: BATTLES, RULE CHANGES AND PROTESTS

By Robby Bell Photos by Mark Kariya SCORE San Felipe 250 March 9th, 2013 San Felipe, BC, MX Once a year the sleepy beach town of San Felipe is awoken by the sounds of chase crews, pre-runner vehicles and race machines tearing around the streets and nearby desert in preparation for the season opener of the SCORE Baja series. The town may be a destination for those seeking relaxation and an escape from the hustle and bustle of the American way of life, but the race itself offers nothing of the sort. The t…

MOTOCROSS ACTION’S MID-WEEK REPORT BY JOHN BASHER (2/27/13)

PHOTO SEQUENCE OF THE WEEK     I take thousands of photos at every race I cover for the magazine. They aren?t always amazing photos, but every so often I take a photo that makes me laugh myself silly. On Saturday night a rider got loosy goosy in the sand section and covered a track worker in sand. I nearly died from laughter, composed myself, and then went about my business. I?m still not sure why I shot photos of the track worker at that specific moment, but I?m glad that I did. MINI-VIE…

REM GLEN HELEN MOTOCROSS RACE REPORT: IT WAS “SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR” DAY AT GLEN HELEN …WHO GOT IT?

John Ortner (82) got a chance to test MXA’s KTM 350SXF Factory Service race machine in the highly competitive Over-50 Expert class. Greg Nelson (51) and former 70’s Hacienda Honda/PK Racing rider Dave Eropkin (811) gave c hase chasing early in moto one. Ortner would take the overall win with Eropkin finishing second. Nelson would end up eighth. Last week it was cold and gloomy in SoCal. This week it was back to the normal with sunny 80-degree temps, along the much more normal Swedish invasion. Along wit…

REM WINNER ROBBY BELL’S RACE REPORT: ?HOW I WON BOTH MOTOS?

By Robby Bell February 16th, 2013 Glen Helen, CA Photos by Mark Chilson With the unfortunate news that the Adelanto GP had called off the Pro race, I was left with an appetite to race on Saturday and decided to satisfy it by heading out to Glen Helen for REM and a bit of motocross training. I rather enjoy the REM series races and so it came as a small shock when I realized it had been over a year since I?d made it out to one. I must say that the new (well, new to me) course design since the X-Fighters h…
