ASK THE MXPERTS: (10/22/09)

Dear MXA,
I have a 2009 Kawasaki KX450F and I broke my right fork guard two weeks ago and my left fork guard last week. I’ve been replacing them, but is there a fork guard that won’t break?

The MXA wrecking crew has gone through a bunch of the new-style, warp-around, KX450F fork guards, and while we like the design of the stock guards, we too are tired of replacing them (and the KX radiator shrouds also). We have discovered that virtually every piece of plastic on the 2009 Kawasaki’s cracks over time.

We haven’t tested aftermarket plastic from Acerbis, Polisport, UFO or other companies, but it is possible that they use a formula with a more flexible oil-base mix. Our remedy was to order a set of LightSpeed carbon fiber fork guards. They are stronger and best of all, the wrap-around design of the LightSpeed guards will bolt on all models of KX450F (from 2006 to 2010). At $109.95 they are expensive, but if they don’t break they will pay off. For more info go to www.lightspeedperf.com or call (714) 990-5767.
