CARMICHAEL OUTLASTS RAIN-SOAKED MILLVILLE

MILLVILLE, Minn. (August 13, 2006) ? The skies opened up and turned the race track at Spring Creek Motocross Park into a quagmire but it wasn’t enough to stop the sport’s all-time winningest rider from winning today’s Honda Spring Creek National before a crowd of 24,502 for round nine of the 12-race Toyota AMA Motocross Championship.

ÿAfter an unseasonably-mild weekend of weather that produced cool temperatures, a one hour stint of torrential rain soaked the popular Millville facility during the second motos. The muddy conditions added more than a full minute to lap times and caused quite a bit of mechanical difficulties for riders and mechanics.

The elements didn’t seem to bother Carmichael, of Tallahassee, who won for a record-tying seventh time at the Millville facility and notched the 142nd win of his illustrious career. He swept both of the motos and took advantage of the rain-induced misfortune of Yamaha’s Chad Reed to open up a 106-point lead in the Toyota AMA Motocross Championship standings. Reed, of Tampa, Fla., finished 10th overall with a 3-27 moto finish.

Yamaha’s David Vuillemin, of Menifee, Calif., posted a 7-2 for second overall. After the race, Kawasaki’s James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., was dropped one position to fourth overall after an AMA penalty for receiving outside assistance. Honda’s Kevin Windham, of Centreville, Miss., was the benefactor and wound up finishing third overall (9-3).

Race results from the second moto of the AMA Motocross Lites class were still being reviewed by the AMA at the time of this release. An official update on moto two results, overall finish positions and series points will be issued by the AMA once they are made official. Honda’s Andrew Short, of Murrieta, Calif., won the first moto, with Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto, of Poulsbo, Wash., and Broc Hepler, of Kittanning, Pa., finishing second and third, respectively.

The Toyota AMA Motocross Championship, presented by FMF, heads east for the Xyience Broome-Tioga National at Binghamton on August 20.
