The August 2025 issue of MXA is jam-packed full of stuff you need to know—especially about motocross bikes, but also because we provide you with a wealth of information that you’ll never see anywhere else. We tell you, not just what’s new on the 2025 bikes, but how they work, why they made the changes they did and whether or not they are any good. MXA is all about motorcycles—if you don’t want to know everything about how motorcycles works, we aren’t for you.

You gotta give the Austrian’s credit, with more than a small nod to Roger DeCoster, for pushing the Factory Edition motorcycles down the assembly line. Jody came to Motocross Action in December of 1976 when the MXA editorial staff was in disarray with injuries and exits. Just one year ago, a certain Italian-built two-stroke made a secret entrance into the United States. Smuggled in by a couple of enthusiasts with a passion for all things premix, the Fantic XX125 made its unofficial American debut with MXA at the controls of the 2024 Fantic XX125 for the first time on California soil. Now, in 2025, Fantic is finally going legit—officially entering the U.S. market—and MXA had the chance to swing a leg over another version of the Fantic XX125, this time a California derived “Factory Edition Replica.”.”
Gary Semics was around at the dawn of motocross in America and had the honor of racing at the highest levels from 1973 to 1983 for Husqvarna, CZ, Kawasaki, Can-Am, Honda, LOP Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda of Germany and Maico.
One week before the start of the 2025 AMA Nationals Glen Helen hosted the $100,00O MotoFest. It was open to Pro riders, as a final test day before the Nationals started, but unlike the Nationals Glen Helen didn’t charge the riders a red cent. They didn’t require anyone to buy a $500 Pro license or pay a $250 entry fee. Instead, at Thursday’s “Stopwatch National” they were paid a $30,000 purse and on Saturday for the MotoFest Pro Showdown Glen Helen paid a $70,000 purse—and the racers didn’t pay a cent to Glen Helen
Everyone who was around in the mid-1970s remember Harry Everts reign in the 250 World Championship on his magnesium-engined, twin-carb Puch 250, but did you know that Harry also raced a 387cc, four-speed, Open class bikes in International races. There were only eight of these one-off machines made. For a bike collector, this is the Golden Fleece of Vintage bikes. Guess what? Terry Good has one.

Before the MotoFest race, the 2025 World Two-Stroke Championship attracted a massive turnout of two-stroke fans including 40 Open Pro riders and 40 125 Pro riders. A week after the Glen Helen MotoFest, Ty Masterpool pulled a surprise pass on leader Jo Shimoda (10) by jumping past him in the second corner of the 250 National class.,
“The Austrians have been busy the last few years. The big bikes were all-new in 2023, the 65s and 50s were new in 2024, and now the KTM, Husky, and GasGas 85s are all-new for 2025.” The 2025 GasGas MC85 gained a new frame with reworked geometry that mimics the big bikes, and it works with the new swingarm, the updated settings in the WP XACT air forks, and a new, shorter shock with an updated linkage ratio and new shock mount. It also has improved cooling with larger radiators, a redesigned engine layout with a new cylinder head, new ignition and a new spark plug..
The KTM 450SMR is KTM’s flagship Supermoto race bike. It’s based on the 450SXF motocross platform, but nearly everything about the bike is refined for Supermoto racing. The Supermoto suspension is lowered to improve cornering, and it comes with 17-inch wheels front and rear. It has Metzeler Racetec SM K1 Supermoto tires wrapped around Alpina rims. Thanks to the wheels and suspension, the seat height and ground clearance are both down by 2-1/2 inches. The front brake is a four-piston design and it works with an ultra-large 310mm brake rotor
Did you know that Yamaha is the only major OEM that hasn’t jumped on the Factory Edition bandwagon?So, how did we get our hands on a Yamaha YZ250F Factory Edition? Easy! We just picked up a fresh new bike from Yamaha, decked out with everything that the “Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing” catalog has to offer. Although Yamaha is missing out on the Factory Edition market, they do have one edge over the competition when it comes to aftermarket engine mods. Yamaha is the only OEM providing a comprehensive engine kit for their bike.
