JOSH GRANT AND JAKE WEIMER WIN RED BUD: Jason Lawrence Breaks His Perfect Season Streak By Finishing Tenth In Moto Two; Dungey And Pourcel Go 1-8 and 8-1

JOSH GRANT AND JAKE WEIMER WIN RED BUD:
Jason Lawrence Breaks His Perfect Season Streak By Finishing Tenth In Moto Two; Dungey And Pourcel Go 1-8 and 8-1

Josh Grant became the fifth different winner in the 450 class this season. Grant was by-and-far the fastest rider at Red Bud. In the first moto he came from out of the picture to pass all the major contenders and just missed nipping Chad Reed at the line. In the second moto, Grant blew by Tedesco, Short and Reed to take the overall victory with a 2-1. Reed was second overall with a 1-2, while Ivan Tedesco used a 4-2 for third. Andrew Short was fourth.ÿ

Jason Lawrence ruined his perfect season by finishing a moto. To this point in the season, Lawrence, once considered a title contender (albeit one with future legal troubles), had not scored a single point, had not finished any motos and had barely logged a lap in competition (not to mention being DQ’ed at Hangtown for jumping the gate). At Red Bud, Lawrence went 36-10 (and was slotted between Tyler Bowers and Justin Brayton at the end of the second moto).

Ryan Dungey and Christophe Pourcel both won 250 motos convincingly, but both finished 8th in their other motos. Jake Weimer took his second straight win with a 2-4. Tyla Rattray DNF’ed the second moto for a 6-37 day (13th overall).

In a weird rules glitch, Pourcel’s 8-1 was scored second overall, while Dungey’s 1-8 was scored as a fifth overall. Is that stupid or what? At your local track, Weimer’s 2-4 would have won (6 points), Searle’s 5-2 would be second (7 points), Metcalfe’s 4-3 would have been third (7 points, but a worse second moto than Searle), Pourcel would be fourth (9 points) and Dungey would be fifth (9 points, but a worse second moto than Pourcel). So, in the world we all know, only Weimer and Dungey were scored correctly by the AMA system.
