LIGHT TRUCK PERSONALIZATION REPORT: MOTOCROSS AND PICKUP TRUCKS

Almost 85 percent of MXA readers own a pickup truck. This makes sense since motorcycle racers need to carry a bike to and from the races, practice and the shop. But how much do you know about pickup truck ownership? Did you know that truck sales outnumber passenger car sales? Or that dealers sell over 3,000,000 trucks a year? A brief survey of truck owners by SEMA, called the ?Light Truck Personalization Report,ý sheds some light on who American truck buyers are.

CADILLAC ESCALADE EXT BUYER

The Cadillac Escalade EXT pickup truck is the most popular truck for buyers over the age of 55. The truck with the youngest ownership is the Dodge Ram series–but the mean age is still 41 years-old.

CHEVY SILVERADO VERUS TOYOTA TUNDRA BUYERS

Of all truck owners, Chevy Silverado owners have the lowest education level, while Toyota Tundra owners have the highest education level. Over 60 percent of truck owners have a college education, while only 12 percent have post-graduate degrees

AGE GROUPS BY BRAND

Only four percent of truck owners are under 24 years old. 16 percent of truck owners are between 25-to-34 years old. The vast majority of truck owners are found in the 35-to-54 year-old age group.

INCOME AND TRUCK OWNERSHIP

No surprises here–Cadillac pickup truck owners make the most money ($133,000 a year), Chevy Avalanche is second ($99,000) and Toyota Tundra third ($83,000). Ford, Dodge and GMC owners have the lowest income.

Eight percent of the truck owners had incomes of less than $25,000. Twenty-one percent of truck owners had incomes between $25,000 and $49,999. And over 70 percent of the truck owners had incomes of $50,000-plus.

GENDER AND TRUCK OWNERSHIP

89.6 percent of truck owners are male and this number has increased from 83 percent five years ago.
