MAY 31-RC AND BUBBA REIGN SUPREME

Round 2 of 12
Mt. Morris, PA

What else can be said about Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart that hasn’t already been said? Now that all the rumors have been crushed about both riders -Carmichael possibly not being up to speed due to his knee and Stewart making a poor selection in the KX125 – suddenly things have become absolutely clear. Ricky and Bubba are flawless thus far in the season, because after Mt. Morris both have racked up four winning motos. So much for a bum knee, as Carmichael put on a riding clinic in Pennsylvania and potentially demoralized the 250 class on Sunday. Meanwhile, Stewart stuck to his guns and raced his tried and true KX125 instead of joining the four-stroke crowd.

BROKEN RECORD

If you were James Stewart, you would have been sporting an ear-to-ear grin under your helmet at Mt. Morris. Instead of having to battle with any riders like he did at Hangtown (Stephane Roncada), Stewart plainly said adios to anyone even thinking of challenging him. In moto one James won by nearly 40 seconds, and in moto two he won by nearly 30 seconds. Four-stoke nothing, Stewart managed just fine on his two-stroke.

VAPOR TRAILS

If you mess with the bull, you get the horns. In moto one of the 250 class, Ricky Carmichael was leading and fell after just one lap. Chad Reed inherited the lead for the first time this season, but the lead wasn’t meant to last. Carmichael reeled Reed back in after only two laps and shot past the newly crowned supercross champ. From then on, RC left a vapor trail for Reed and company to follow. Moto two was much of the same, except that Kevin Windham led for the first few laps before being gunned down by Ricky. From then on it was a carbon copy of moto one, as Carmichael checked out.

HOMETOWN HERO

Broc Hepler showed promise again this weekend. After battling up front the second moto at Hangtown, Hepler took full advantage at his home track of Mt. Morris. Knowing all the nooks and crannies in the track, Broc took two second place moto finishes for second overall on the day and his best outdoor performance to date.

There is a weekend break in the schedule before the series heads to Southwick, MA for round three. Be sure to bring sandals, sunscreen, and sun umbrella to the deep sand track.
