MOTOCROSS ACTION MID-WEEK REPORT

#WHIPITWEDNESDAY

Rider: Mike Brown

Mike Brown has always been a staple in professional racing. His career started in 1994 when he won his first professional race and expanded past 2006. He made a mark in the F.I.M. 125cc world championship, securing third place in both 1999 and 2000. In 2001 he clinched the AMA 125cc national championship while riding for Pro Circuit Kawasaki. In 2003 he was in a points battle with Grant Langston and Ryan Hughes when a separated shoulder derailed his championship run. Mike Brown competed mostly in the 125cc class (modern-day 250 class) only spending a short time in the 250’s (modern-day 450 class). After his professional motocross and Supercross career, he raced enduro cross and select off-road events for KTM. Today at the age of 51 Mike can still be seen racing everything from 125cc two strokes to Gncc events. He still is a competitive rider and puts a lot of pressure on the younger generation. Just recently he was seen riding some Supercross and is debating on racing a few outdoor nationals this year.

RACING RETURNS IN ARLINGTON TEXAS, THIS WEEKEND

Cooper Webb 2024 Anaheim 2 Supercross Main Events-4740

In 2023, Cooper Webb clinched victory at the Arlington Supercross, following a strong start to the season with several podium finishes and a win at the Tampa event. Cooper secured third place in the series overall. Now, a new challenge awaits him. This season, Cooper has already achieved multiple podium finishes and a win at the Triple Crown event in Anaheim. After a challenging weekend in Glendale, where he started near the front but faded back, Cooper made no excuses. He is determined to improve and, after a two-week break, is back on a track where he has proven his speed. It will be interesting to see if he can regain momentum and contend for the championship.

DEEGAN BACK ON TRACK

The 250 East series resumes this weekend in Arlington after a brief hiatus. Haiden Deegan has a chance for redemption following a scary crash at the start in Detroit, which left his bike damaged and hindered his performance. This weekend, he should be healthy and ready for battle. Despite his impressive speed in Detroit, winning in Arlington won’t be easy, as Austin Forkner, the race winner in Detroit, has momentum on his side. Several riders, including Seth Hammaker, Tom Vialle, and Cameron McAdoo, were also involved in the crash with Deegan in Detroit. This weekend’s race is shaping up to be an intense battle for the win, with Deegan potentially leading the charge.

250SX EAST CHAMPIONSHIP POINT STANDINGS

Heading into the second round of the East Coast series, Austin Forkner leads the points standings, followed by Max Anstie and Daxton Bennick. In the last East Coast round, Austin Forkner managed to avoid the chaos of the first turn pileup by grabbing the holeshot and leading the race from start to finish. Behind him, some intense battles took place. Honda’s Chance Hymas held onto the second position for most of the race, but after some mistakes later in the main event, he eventually faded back to tenth place. Max Anstie, who was running third, made a move into second and secured his position there. As for Bennick, he nearly got caught in the first-turn chaos, and a bike that ran into the back of him actually sent him off the track. He managed to rejoin safely and consistently climbed through the ranks to secure third by the end of the race. This weekend, riders are expected to take a more cautious approach in the first turn, giving those who went down in Detroit a chance to mix it up with the leaders. The points standings going into the next round are as follows.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: HAIDEN DEEGAN NOT DETERRED

“The start of the Detroit main event, someone on the inside just sent it into everyone, and we all went cartwheeling. It happens. We got some points, and we didn’t quit. Now we’ve just got to go and tick off some wins and gain these points back.”

AARON PLESSINGER INTERVIEW: “IT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME COMING!”

Red Bull KTM’s Aaron Plessinger has long been a fan favorite. Now the Ohio native is not only a fan favorite, but he may also be considered a favorite to take the win. Grabbing his first 450 Supercross win this year in San Diego it has propelled Plessinger into a next-level fan favorite and a Supercross championship contender. Aaron’s 450 SX-F carried the red plate for several rounds, and he looked like it may return to his bike at the recent Glendale Supercross until an early crash derailed his momentum. Whether Plessinger wins the 2024 Supercross championship can be debated, but certainly, he has found the form that earned him a 250 Supercross and outdoor motocross championship in 2018.
