MOTOCROSS ACTION MID-WEEK REPORT

#WHIPITWEDNESDAY

Rider: Levi Kitchen

Levi Kitchen has definitely come into his own these past few years. Growing up in Washougal Washington, Kitchen had one of the best National Tracks, tucked away in practically his backyard. However, Levi was not a stand-out mini-rider, say like Adam Cianciarulo or Cooper Webb but his story proves that hard work and dedication to a sport can be rewarding. As he moved to big bikes his speed began to show and he was able to catch the eye of the people over at Yamaha. In his final years as an amateur, he won every class that he had signed up for, from the B class up to the A class before heading to the pro ranks. Once in the pro ranks where he rode for Star Racing Yamaha, he began to show results. And in this past year was able to make a push for the championship which he just came up shy of, on his Pro Circuit Kawasaki. Kitchen will be one of the riders to beat in the years to come.

SMX ROUND 1 TO BEGINS THIS WEEKEND

Though the fans had a weekend off from racing, the riders continued to work through this short break as they began riding Supercross the moment motocross had ended. Luckily the SMX rounds are a hybrid type event, that is a mixture of Supercross and motocross, though it does seem to resemble Supercross more. The riders gained a combination of points through the two seasons and will race three rounds over the next few weeks. We will see a return of a few different riders as well. Jett Lawrence is coming back from injury and will be battling for wins. Cooper Webb will be returning after aggravating an old injury, his first race back. And possibly Jo Shimoda who ended up breaking his collarbone, but we say the young Japanese rider at Glen Helen, just two weeks after surgery.

A LITTLE PRE-MIX ADVICE: IS IT K2 OR K2 INJECTOR OIL?

MXA runs Formula K2 in our two-strokes, but does not run K2 Injector oil as a pre-mix. It is designed for oil-injector systems.

IS IT K2 OR K2 INJECTOR OIL?
Dear MXperts,
I know that MXA says it runs Maxima K2 pre-mix oil in its two-strokes. Is that Maxima K2 or K2 Injector oil? And, what ratio do you mix it at? Also, do you mix any VP race gas with the pump gas?

We run Maxima K2 pre-mix. Do not run Maxima K2 injector oil as pre-mix. It is it is only for fuel-injected two-strokes that have an oil-injector system like the KTM’s TPI system. Injector oil is much thinner than regular pre-mix to ensure that it gets through the injector tubes easier, which makes it unsuited as a pre-mix. We run all of our two-stroke engine oil at 40:1 (in spite of what KTM says). As far as race gas goes, we only add VP C12 to our pump gas if we detect pinging under a load. We typically run 50 percent C12 and 50 percent pump gas, but only if the engine needs it.

“That’s a wrap on the outdoor season. It was a really good season overall. We won the championship, had lots of wins, lots of moto wins, and definitely made a big progression this year in my riding in general. Today was quite a wild one. I didn’t get a great start in the first moto, and I fell on the first lap and came from around 34th to 11th. I just struggled with the setup, so we went back and changed it for the second moto, and it was a lot better. We ripped a start and made our way into the lead with about six laps to go. That was awesome, and now we’re moving on to SMX to defend that title.”
