MOTOCROSS ACTION MID-WEEK REPORT

GAINING POINTS IN THE MUD

Cooper Webb grabbed third on the night giving him even more momentum in the championship.

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb once again showed grit and determination, overcoming adversity in the mud to finish third at Foxborough Supercross. His ninth podium finish of the season further expanded his Monster Energy AMA Supercross 450SX Championship lead, giving him a 15-point advantage.

Cooper Webb did not give up and his determination showed.

Once again, rain called for an abbreviated schedule, but this time the rain stayed and wreaked havoc on the track as well. In addition to the mud and the unrelenting rain, it was a cold day for Round 12 of Monster Energy AMA Supercross. Despite the challenging conditions and only one session before the night show, Webb qualified fourth. He then got a good start to his heat race in second and crossed the line in the runner-up position, but was credited with the win after the competition was penalized for jumping on a Red Cross section. Webb got another good start to the main event in fifth but had a couple of tip-overs and had to make his way back to sixth. On the final lap, he made one last charge and claimed the final podium spot, making championship gains.

Cooper Webb said: “Man, it was a crazy, crazy day. That was a stressful day. A lot of mud and a lot of conditions to deal with. In the main event, I was able to come through. I had a great start, but I ended up crashing twice. I put my head down there at the end and made some hard charges, so I’m super stoked with that and stoked to get on the podium and extend my points lead.”

CAREER FIRST WIN

Chance Hymas beat the conditions and was one of the few riders to stay up in the mud.

Honda HRC Progressive’s Chance Hymas earned the first 250SX main-event victory of his career at this weekend’s Foxborough Supercross, masterfully navigating a track made treacherous by consistent rain. With the slick and muddy conditions, Hymas capitalized on the mistakes of others and rode in control.

All smiles grabbing his first career 250 Supercross win.

The 250SX East main event saw Hymas grab a top-five start from a far-outside gate and maintain his cool despite the atrocious conditions. Setting a pace that was faster than the competition, while also minimizing mistakes, the Idaho native advanced, assuming the lead at the midway point and maintaining it to the checkers. He crossed the finish line over half a minute ahead of second-place Park, who had taken that position on the same lap that Hymas secured the lead.

Chance Hymas said:My night at Foxborough was amazing—my first ever Supercross win, which is such a great feeling! The track was a complete mudder, and it was insane, but I kept it on two wheels. The team did an amazing job getting me prepared for it. I’m so stoked right now, and looking forward to next weekend.”

MXA FANTASY LEAGUE – FXR GIVEAWAY: THE WINNER OF THE FOXBOROUGH SUPERCROSS SCORED 195 POINTS

What a weekend of racing at the 2025 Foxborough Supercross. The conditions made it nearly impossible to correctly predict the scores from the race. Chance Hymas was the winner in the 250 class as he sat in second behind Dayton Briggs for about half the race and then capitalized when Briggs lost the front end and went down. Cullin Park and Gage Linville also grabbed their first podium finishes. In the 450 class, it was Aaron Plessinger who was the big winner but it was Cooper Webb who made a few last-minute passes to put himself on the podium and extend the points lead.

450 CLASS PREDICTIONS

Fighting through injury Ken Roczen was still able to grab fourth on the night in Foxborough.

It was basically guessing who would win this weekend but one rider who has been known to do well in the mud took the win. That rider is Aaron Plessinger and that was the prediction that gave 36 fantasy points this includes a ten-point bonus. Second Chase Sexton was chosen and he would finish up sixth giving only 17 fantasy points. In third Webb was chosen and this again was correct giving 31 fantasy points with the bonus. In fourth Ken Roczen was chosen and this was a correct prediction giving 29 fantasy points. In fifth Justin Barcia was chosen and once again correct. Justin Hill was the final pick but he did not see himself up front so he would receive no points.

250 CLASS PREDICTIONS

It was a wild start to the 250 race as R.J. Hampshire was wide open when he tucked the front end and caused a large pileup of riders.

In the 250 class, R.J. Hampshire was predicted to win but would finish in fifteenth giving no points. In second Tom Vialle was chosen and he finished twenty-second giving no fantasy points. In third Seth Hammaker was chosen but he finished ninth giving no points. In fifth Daxton Bennick was chosen and he finished in fifth giving 28 fantasy points with the ten-point bonus for the correct prediction. And in sixth Chance Hymas was chosen, he’d go on to win giving 26 fantasy points.

MXA’S CARGO-VAN BINGO: FORD VS. MERCEDES VS. RAM

It’s a white world in the pits at Glen Helen between the motor homes and cargo vans—even the pickup trucks are white.

Dear MXperts,
My Ford F150 has served me well by getting me to and from the races with my bike, gear, gas cans, lawn chairs and cooler, but now my son has turned 13 and doesn’t want to play soccer anymore. He wants to race. So, I bought him a used YZ125, and he is showing promise. My old Ford F150 isn’t up to holding two of everything in the bed. What is the best cargo van?

You have three choices when it comes to cargo vans tall enough to stand up in, and you shouldn’t buy one that you can’t stand up in you or will regret it soon after. Luckily, the MXA wrecking crew has experience with all three of the cargo vans you would want: Josh Mosiman has a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter; Dennis Stapleton has a Ford Transit; and Josh Fout has a Ram ProMaster. Obviously, price plays a big role and the prices vary by brand, low or high roof height, regular or extended length and availability. There is no shortage of cargo vans in the pits at races and their owners would be the best people to ask for info about what they think before buying. Plus, here is a list of the most popular cargo vans for  comparison:

MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTER—$62,495

The Sprinter is the top choice for full-size vans, with a large loading capacity and good mileage. However, Sprinter vans are expensive and have high maintenance costs. They are offered in three available lengths, two wheelbases and two roof heights (97.2 inches and 108.6 inches). Sprinter dropped their gasoline engine in 2023, but is now offered with two turbocharged diesels–a standard 168 horsepower unit and high-output 208 hp version. They don’t have more mechanical issues than their competition, but you will be paying Mercedes-Benz prices to get it fixed.

FORD TRANSIT—$49,495
Thanks to the abundant number of Ford dealerships, the Ford Transit is considered to be the easiest cargo van to maintain and service. It’s also one of the best-selling vans in the United States. It is available in three roof heights and three body lengths (18.5 feet, 20.0 feet and 22.0 feet). The high roof height is 110 inches. Engine choices are a 3.5-liter direct-injection gas, 3.5-liter EcoBoost gas or 2.0-liter Eco Blue (diesel). It is less expensive than the Mercedes but more expensive than the Ram.

The Ram ProMaster is really a Fiat Ducato, which is why it has the lowest MSRP. It is the only front-wheel-drive cargo van in a class filled with rear-wheel-drive vans—it also has the widest and tallest cargo van—thanks to its square cargo area and low load floor (because there is no drive shaft under the body). There is only one engine choice, the 3.6 liter Chrysler Pentastar gas engine. There are two high-roof cargo van models both in regular end extended lengths. However, in the MXA wrecking crew’s opinion the Pro Master suffers from lots of irritating issues, as small as the ignition key wearing out to the windows refusing to go up and down.
