MOTOCROSS ACTION MID-WEEK REPORT

JEREMY MARTIN ENDS HIS CAREER WITH A WIN

Haiden Deegan and Jeremy Martin share an emotional moment when Martin to the win in the last race of his career.

It was a storybook ending to the Spring Creek National for the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 250 team. Haiden Deegan strengthened his 250MX title defense with a clutch 1-2 moto score for the overall win, while Jeremy Martin delivered an emotional farewell by winning the second moto and securing second overall (3-1) at his home track in Millville, Minnesota.

The fans were pumped to see their local rider up front in both motos.

Back to full fitness after his crash at Round 2, it was one last ride for Jeremy Martin with the team he won back-to-back 250MX titles with in 2014 and 2015. Qualifying third, the hometown hero grabbed the holeshot in Moto 1 and ran up front, maintaining second until being passed by his teammate. When the leader crashed, Martin moved back into second and ultimately crossed the line in third. In Moto 2, he grabbed another holeshot and led the first three laps. Although he dropped back to second, he reclaimed the lead after the frontrunner went off track and continued to ride a strong pace to ultimately distance himself from his teammate and earn his final moto win by an impressive 7-second margin. It was an emotional final victory for Martin’s decorated career, which, in addition to his two 250MX titles, included 51 moto wins and 20 overall victories.

Jeremy Martin said: “I was in a tough place at Pala and Hangtown. I was a mid-pack guy and wasn’t even in the top 10. I hadn’t been riding or doing anything, but we found some good settings when I came back, after I got better from my crash. I had a really good five days on the motorcycle when I was down there with the Star Racing Yamaha crew. On my last day, I said, ‘If I can ride like that at Millville, I can win.’ The stars aligned. I got two amazing starts on that beast of a machine — the Yamaha — and here we are. I didn’t think I had it anymore. It’s been a really rough two to three years with a lot of injuries. I don’t think I could’ve scripted a better ending.”

LAWRENCE BROTHERS FINISH FIRST AND SECOND

Jett Lawrence grabs another overall win. He has yet to lose an overall this season.

The Honda HRC Progressive squad continued its authoritative AMA Pro Motocross campaign at round 7, held at Spring Creek MX Park in Millville, Minnesota. Jett and Hunter Lawrence traded moto wins and second-place finishes in the premier class, with Jett getting the nod because of a better second-moto result.

Jett nailed the 450 moto 1 holeshot, with Hunter close behind in second. A minor lap 1 tip-over dropped Jett to 11th, with Hunter assuming the lead. Jett quickly remounted and began slicing through the pack, going from 10th at the end of lap 1 to sixth four laps in. He gained three positions on lap 5 alone, putting him in the top three, and the next lap saw him overtake Eli Tomac for second place. Meanwhile, Hunter rode flawlessly at the front, ultimately taking the win 15 seconds ahead of his brother and teammate.

Hunter Lawrence was able to grab a moto win but Jett got the best of him on moto two.

In moto 2, the Lawrence brothers again executed perfect starts aboard their CRF450RWE race machines, with Jett leading Hunter across the holeshot line. The duo never looked back, controlling the race from start to finish and creating an enormous gap over the field—third place ultimately crossing the line 40 seconds behind Hunter. The dominant result in both motos gave Honda HRC Progressive a clean sweep of the day, with Jett edging out Hunter for the overall.

CHASE SEXTON BUILDING EACH WEEKEND

Chase Sexton has been building since his return to racing after injury.

Third overall in Round 7 of the 2025 AMA Pro Motocross Championship at the Spring Creek National continued Chase Sexton’s successful return to racing in the mid-stages of the 450MX season, with the defending champion posting a consistent 3-3 scorecard across the pair of premier class motos. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider powered his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION to sixth during the morning’s qualifying sessions, before charging to a solid P3 result in Moto 1 after featuring toward the front of the field on what was a high-speed Millville circuit this weekend. Faced with a deteriorating track later in the afternoon, the number 1 posted another measured performance in Moto 2, recording another third-place result, and continuing to build back into form as the series develops.
Chase Sexton said: “I didn’t have a lot of expectations coming back during the season. I think speed-wise, especially my first few laps, were better today than at RedBud, but we still have a lot of work to do. I enjoy Washougal, as well as the next few tracks coming up, so we’ll keep aiming to improve and get closer toward the battle at the front.”

MXA FANTASY LEAGUE – FXR GIVEAWAY: THE WINNER OF THE SPRING CREEK NATIONAL SCORED 256 POINTS

This past weekend at the 2025 Spring Creek National was one of the best races we’ve seen in a long time. We saw Jett Lawrence once again grab another overall win but it did come after Hunter Lawrence was able to grab a moto one win. Hunter would end up second overall on the day, once again putting Honda first and second. In the 250 class, we saw Haiden Deegan grab the moto one win over Jo Shimoda, but the true action came in moto two when Jeremy Martin grabbed his second holeshot of the day and would go on to win the moto, which gave him second overall. This was Jeremy’s final race of his career, and he would go out on top with the team he started with. This week was sponsored by FXR, who gave a set of gear away, and we thank them for that.

TWO-STROKE SPOTLIGHT: TWO-STROKE VS. FOUR STROKE EURO STYLE

In the 2004 250 World Championship, it was Ben Townley on a KTM 250SXF against Tyle Rattray on a KTM 125SX. It was a two-stroke versus four-stroke battle for the World Championship. Ben took a chance with the 250SXF in spite of it being a prototype bike. KTM was late to the four-stroke race as other manufacturers already had a proven 250 four-strokes in the class. The 125cc two-strokes just weren’t cutting the mustard anymore, but KTM decided to pit their two best riders on their two best machines.

KTM had so much faith in the prototype KTM 250SXF that they wanted to race the bike in the USA the following year. To do so, they needed to mass produce the bike to meet the homologation requirements. The KTM 250SXF was put into production in 2005 allowing Nathan Ramsey to race the bike in the 2005 Supercross season.

Ben’s choice to ride the unproven thumper allowed him to win eight 250 GP races in the 2004 season— as well as the 2004 250 World Motocross Championship.

Tyla was underpowered on the 125SX against a sea of four-strokes. He did, however, win three races that year on the smoker and placed second in the 250 Championship. The following year Tyla traded in the 125cc two-stroke for the more powerful 250SXF. The day of the smoker was dead in Europe after 2004.
