MY MOTOCROSS INSPIRATIONS BY BRAD LACKEY
ROGER DECOSTER
“There were a few people that I watched and learned from when I raced. Yet, being a young kid in Europe and not knowing the ropes was tough, but Roger Decoster helped me out a lot. He taught me how to train, which was more help than watching anyone else ride.”
STEVE STASIEFSKI
“Steve Stasiefski was a factory Maico mechanic for Herbert Schmitz in the GP’s. I hired him in 1979 to 1982 (when I won the World Championship). Steve was a confidence builder for me.”

STEVE WHITELOCK
“I didn’t like most team mangers back when I raced because they would be slow in getting parts from Japan, but Steve was really persistent. He was my team manager in 1978 and 1979. He tried very hard so that the team could try and win races.”
MY DAD
“He had friends that he would go riding with on cow trails in Northern California. When my brother and I were young he bought us Honda step-throughs. That way we could go ride on the flat terrain while he was riding in the hills.”

ROCKY
“My life story is all of the ?Rocky’ movies rolled into one. Those movies were a huge inspiration to me. When “Rocky” came out I was a young kid in Europe trying to race motocross against the world and against all odds.”
JOEL ROBERT
“Watching Joel on the start holding his bike wide open with his left hand on his helmet and then slamming his bike into gear without moving his hand was crazy! Back in that time there weren’t any starting gates. We did the infamous hand-on-helmet starts. The way Joel started was really cool.”
I INSPIRE
“I don’t really know who I inspire. I can say that I wish kids of today knew more about where motocross began, because these kids don’t know anything about the history. It’s pretty sad.”
