• MXA AD OF THE WEEK: THE 1988 CAGIVA WMX 250
The 1988 Cagiva WMX 250 was designed by Dutch motorcycle designer Jan Witteveen. Witteveen had been at Gilera, Sachs and Siminini before moving to Cagiva. It was raced by Pekka Vehkonnen and Gert Jan Van Doorn. Vehkonnen finished second in the 1988 250 World Championship behind Jon van den Berk and ahead of Rodney Smith. However, Cagiva had purchased the Husqvarna brand from its Swedish Electrolux owners during this time frame and moved the Swedish brand to Italy, where they eventually rebadged the Cagivas as Husqvarnas.
Hopefully Daytona has better security so that there isn’t a repeat of the embarassing incident from last year when the fans poured onto the race track while the race was still going on.
Guess what? Daytona has the third right-hand first turn of the season. We guess that they haven’t been listening to the TV announcers on why right-hand turns are not the hot set-up.

• MXA PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: SCOTT SOFTCON HYBRID KNEE GUARDS
Motocross racers fall into two camps when it comes to knee protection: they either prefer knee pads or knee braces. The MXA test riders aren’t united on this topic. Typically, if a rider has had knee problems before, he wears knee braces; however, plenty of our test riders wear knee pads.
We were very impressed with the fit and function of the Scott Softcon Hybrid knee guards. They quickly became a test rider favorite. The size is nice—not big and bulky, but not so small that they don’t provide enough protection. The Scott guards felt secure yet we could still move our legs freely. The Scott Softcon Hybrids are our new favorite knee pads! They exceeded our expectations in all areas. The retail price is $131.95 at www.scott-sports.com or (800) 893-5294.
• MXA PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: MX FILTER SERVICE AIR FILTER CLEANING
MXA will be sending Josh Mosiman’s air filter to MX Filter Service once he’s done stirring up a dust cloud.
The MX Filter Service program was originally created for the factory teams, but is now available to the public. All you have to do is ship your dirty filters to MX Filter Service’s shop to be cleaned, oiled and shipped back to you in a Ziploc bag.
MXA gets its dirty filters back from MX Filter Service, cleaned, oiled and secured in Zip-Loc bags. The MXA wrecking crew goes through 14 air filters a week.
MX Filter Service is not for everybody, but it is super convenient for factory teams, families with multiple riders, groups of friends who join forces to get all of their filters cleaned at one time, or busy riders. The more filters you send them, the lower the cost per filter. The MXA wrecking crew gets 14 bikes a week dirty. For us, MX Filter Service is a lifesaver.
The retail price to have your filters cleaned, oiled and returned to you in a plastic bags varies based on how many filters you need cleaned. It is $7.00 (per filter), $6.00 (for 10 or more filters) and $5.00 (for 20 or more filters)— (951) 833-5555 or @mxfilterservice on Instagram.

• MXA VIDEO: FIRST RIDE ON A 2025 YAMAHA YZ65 MINI
In this MXA video, we put James Ellis on our 2025 Yamaha YZ65 for a few laps at Glen Helen to experience the blue bike for the first time. Unfortunately, the test got cut short when he had a crash mid-way through the day, but we decided to make a fun little video anyway and return with more coverage on the YZ65 again soon, after James and our other mini-testers get some more time on it. This is just a first impression video from a youngster comparing the YZ65 to his Husqvarna TC65, enjoy!

• THE GREATEST DEAL IN MOTOCROSS: REAL WORDS, LARGE PHOTOS, MORE TECH & A $25 ROCKY MOUNTAIN CREDIT
This is the March 2025 cover of MXA. It features a totally restored and reimagined 2006 Suzuki RM125 two-stroke. It made the cover because it took 18 years to finish it (you can see the video of it below).
It was not the oldest bike in the March issue, because we took a close-up look at Roger DeCoster’s 1973 Suzuki 500. Roger’s bike had to have molten lead poured into the frame to meet the new FIM minimum weight rule and, as a result, it handled poorly, but Roger clinched his third FIM 500 World Championship in the last moto of the 1973 season.
In “Jody Box,” he relives some of his earliest motocross bikes, including a Puch that shifted by twisting the left grip and also showcased his 1972 Hodaka Super Rat (above), although it looks nothing like a Super Rat with its Eric Jensen engine, Swenco leading link forks, ultra-long swingarm, upside-down air filter cannister, Curnutt shocks (front and rear), Rickman front hub, Cycle Craft gas tank and the lowest seat imaginable.
Also in the March issue— Dennis Stapleton took MXA’s 2025 Honda CRF450 and built it for the Over-30 and Over-40 Pro classes at the World Vet Championships. We also give you a rundown on the 2025-1/2 KTM 450SXF Factory Edition, Husqvarna FC450 Factory Edition and the GasGas MC450F Factory Edition..
It couldn’t be easier or cheaper to subscribe to MXA than it is right now—because when you subscribe you receive a Rocky Mountain ATV/MC credit for $25 towards anything in their massive inventory, all at no cost to you. Are you smart enough to recognize a great deal when you see it? To subscribe call (800) 767-0345 or Click Here
