• THE BIGGEST PAYDAY IN MOTOCROSS HISTORY WAS ONE YEAR AGO & WILL BE REPEATED IN TWO WEEKS
Chase Sexton (4) is the number one seed going into the three-round 2024 AMA SuperMotocross 450 Playoffs which start last Saturday. He earned a quarter million dollars last year for finishing third, but wants the full million this year.
Now that round one of the three-race 2024 SuperMotocross Playoffs is in the books, the riders have found their place in the line for the giant payday line. But the first round is not very important, because the following two rounds pay double and triple points. No matter how a rider did in round one, the whole shooting match is won at the third round. Here are the top ten 450 and 250 competitors from the 2023 AMA SuperMotocross Championship and how much money they earned.
How many AMA 450 Supercross events would Chase Sexton have to win to equal the amount of money that someone will make on September 21 in Las Vegas? A racer would have to win 71 AMA Supercrosses at $14,000 each to equal the $1 million dollar SuperMotocross 450 payout.

• BIKES YOU’VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE: APRILIA MXV TWIN 450
The Aprilia MXV 450 was the last twin-cylinder motocross bike raced in the Grand Prix series—back in 2010. Josh Coppins took it to a 12th place overall in the 450 World Championships. The 77-degree V-Twin, fuel-injected engine was fueled by 38mm Dell’Orto throttle body. The engine featured dry sump lubrication with the oil tank integrated inside the crankcase. There was separate lubrication for the gearbox and engine. It had 50mm Marzocchi upside-down forks and a Sachs shock. The 2010 Aprilia MXV 450 had a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $8499 and a claimed weight of 250 pounds. It was sold in the United Sates, but was not a success, nor was it legal in AMA motocross or Supercross because it was a twin.

• MXA COVER OF THE WEEK: “TOMORROW’S MX BIKES” NEVER GOT HERE
When this August 1993 cover came out, there was little doubt that the lack of signage on motocross bikes had hurt them when it came to signing outside sponsors. Over 30 years ago, Slater Skins and Rhino Skins tried to get race teams to switch to bodywork that would allow sponsors logos to be visible from the stands. Although a handful or Arenacross and freestyle riders adopted them, no factory race teams took the plunge because the motorcycle manufacturers didn’t want the teams covering up the look of their bikes.
