TY MASTERPOOL INTERVIEW: “IT IS A BIG CHANGE, BUT NOW I AM LOVING IT.”

Certainly, one of the biggest stories coming from High Point Raceway’s National motocross was Ty Masterpool’s win in the 250 class. Originally signed with the HBI Kawasaki privateer team to contest the 450 class, Masterpool was a very last-minute addition to the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki 250 team. While Ty has looked fast, it’s incredible that with just four Outdoor Nationals on the 250, he earned the overall win. Ty’s second-first moto scores topped, Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha’s Haiden Deegan, and HRC Factory Honda’s Chance Hymas. Masterpool’s win has now shot him to sixth in 250 championship points and also gave team owner Mitch Payton his 300th overall win. So we spoke with an overwhelmed Ty Masterpool at day’s end.

TY, HOW ARE YOU FEELING ABOUT TODAY’S WIN? I am feeling good. Hard work, belief in yourself, and trusting in God got the job done! I have been getting used to the 250 again.  It is a big change, but now I am loving it.  The bike handles amazing.  I have the best-handling bike that I have ever ridden for sure.  I am loving it, getting used to it, and very grateful to all at Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki.

Ty Masterpool collected his first overall win at High Point Raceway.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST ADJUSTMENT GOING FROM THE 450 TO THE 250? I am just getting used to riding a 250 again. It’s a lot of shifting, and just all around how aggressive you must ride it. On the 450, you normally roll the throttle on in the corners, whereas on the 250, you are wide open everywhere. So, as I said,  it’s getting used to all the shifting, and being more aggressive with the throttle.

WHAT IS IT LIKE HAVING A TEAM LIKE PRO CIRCUIT BEHIND YOU?  I WOULD IMAGINE AGAIN, COMING FROM A PRIVATEER, IT HAS TO BE LIKE DRASTIC HELP. Yes, it is awesome to have a big team like that behind you.  It is not a one-man team.  It takes an army behind you to win, and I am very appreciative of everyone over there.  Everyone works their butt off, and the whole team does their job so well. It makes my job that much easier and that much better.  It is awesome.

NOW THAT YOU HAVE WON AN AMA 250  NATIONAL OVERALL, HAVE YOUR GOALS OR TARGETS NOW CHANGED GOING FORWARD? Yes, obviously to win is the goal. I don’t want to be here just to participate. I want to be the best.  Ultimately, the goal is to win but to do that, you just must focus on yourself, riding against the track, and let the results come.

YOU HAVE THE NEXT WEEKEND OFF; WILL YOU BE TAKING A BREAK? No, not at all. I’ll just put in more work as I did not get my boot camp in prior to outdoors. We are going to do a little miniature boot camp next week, along with anything I can do to get in better shape.
