WATCH THE FINAL AMA NATIONAL OF THE YEAR IN UNDER 20 MINUTES

In what was the best of seasons (for the Lawrence brothers) and the worst of seasons (for all the riders who sat out multiple races with injuries), the 11th and final round of the 2023 AMA National Motocross Championship was capped off with the fourth-ever perfect season in AMA motocross history as Honda’s Jett Lawrence went 1-1 at the Ironman 450 National to win 22 motos and 11 450 Nationals in a row. It should be noted that Lawrence’s amazing performance in 2023 is overshadowed by Ricky Carmichael’s 24 moto wins and 12 450 Nationals victories in a row in 2002 and 2004 and James Stewart’s 24 moto wins and 12 National victories in a row in 2008. What sets Jett Lawrences 2023 perfect season apart from Carmichael’s and Stewart’s historic years is that he did it in his first season in the 450 class and marked Honda’s first 450 National Championship in 20 years (when Ricky Carmichael last put Honda on top of the box in 2003).

Injuries and DNF’s played a big role in the 2023 AMA National Motocross Championships, as only Jett Lawrence and Aaron Plessinger scored points in all 22 motos of the 450 class, while only Jo Shimoda and Max Vohland scored points in all 22 of the 250 National Championship motos.

Equally notable was that Jett’s 450 National Championship was bookended by his brother Hunter’s 2023 AMA 250 National Championship. (it should be noted that Hunter’s 250 National title came on the heels of the 250 titles that Jett won in 2021 and 2022). Hunter and Jett Lawrence completed a historic feat as the first ever siblings to sweep their respective titles. To top it all off, Honda became the first manufacturer to successfully claim every championship in a single season following Jett’s 450 outdoor title, Hunter’s 250 National championship, Chase Sexton’s 450 Supercross crown, Jett’s 250 West Regional title and Hunter’s 250 East Regional win.

Jett’s perfect 550 points makes his 2023 season the fourth most points ever scored in the AMA 450 Nationla Championship (behind Carmichael’s two 600 point seasons and James Stewart’s 600 point season in 2008.
