UNITED STATES MOTOCROSS GRAND PRIX PRE-RACE PHOTO GALLERY: BIG AIR IN BOTH DIRECTIONS

This is a panoramic view of the Glen Helen layout from the REM pits.

For the millionth time, the Triple Step-Up is not a triple and it never has been. It is three step-ups in a row with an elevation gain of 60 feet from start to finish and overall length of 250 feet. MXA’s Dennis Stapleton is midair over a 120-foot gap (actually two gaps).

This photo of Bobby Garrison picks up where the Stapleton’s photo above left off. Garrison, Doug Dubach and Dennis Stapleton were picked to test the USGP jump sequences before this weekend’s race.

Doug Dubach, who won last year’s Vet World Cup event, is clearing the step-up from the REM pit road up onto the double hump at the far right.

In this view Dubach lays it flat during the long three-second flight across the top series of the Triple Step-Up.

There is also a double step-down. Dennis Stapleton launches himself over the edge of the cliff used as the “up” part of the Triple Step-Up. Once he lands he faces an equally long jump over a double hump step-down.

Bobby Garrison doubles his way down “The Staircase.” This section connects the Triple Step-Up to the double step-down. It is very tricky to get the downhill timing right.

Here is what happened when a Ranger accidentally rolled down Mt. Saint Helen. It was brand-new the day before. Luckily, no one was in it as it careened down the hill.
