WATCH ELI TOMAC WINS HIS 6TH DAYTONA & MALCOLM STEWART’S ANGER COST HIM A POTENTIAL VICTORY

The 2022 Daytona Supercross was the 9th round of the 17-race Monster Energy Supercross season. In a jam-packed Daytona Speedway the fans were treated to great racing in the 450 class as Cooper Webb and Eli Tomac dueled for victory and, as often happens, the fans were robbed near the end of the Main event when a lapper blocked Cooper Webb’s path, allowing Eli Tomac to make an easy pass. No one will ever know if Webb could have used his superior racecraft to hold Tomac off or whether Tomac’s always blistering last lap surge would have ended in a hard fought win. In Shane McElrath’s defense, he had moved over to the right side of the track to allow Webb and Tomac free passage, but didn’t know that he was on Webb’s line.

As for Malcolm Stewart, who set the fast lap time in Qualifying and won his 450 heat race by a large margin, he let his grudge against Jason Anderson color his focus. It not only cost Malcolm a chance at his first-ever 450 Main event victory, but allowed Webb to displace Malcolm for third place in the 450 season points.
