The 2023 Pro Motocross championship has made its way to the Unadilla National for the ninth round of the season. Jett Lawrence is 16-0, continuing the streak of dominance this season. Chase Sexton looking to minimize mistakes and break the streak of Jett Lawrence this weekend. The 250 class has rookie Haiden Deegan sitting only three points behind the leader Hunter Lawrence, headed into Unadilla. As we wind down into the final races of the season, every point matters; it will be interesting to see if they have strategies or just hang it out in the motos.

JUSTIN BARCIA BACK IN ACTION
Justin had missed the entire beginning of the season due to a Collarbone and Rib injury that occurred at the Nashville Supercross earlier in the year. Justin now sets his return at the Unadilla National. He is one of the riders that can potentially put a stop to Jett Lawrence’s dominance, and we’re excited to see him try!
STILEZ ROBERTSON MAKES HIS RETURN
After a leg injury at the Glendale Supercross, Stilez has missed most of the outdoor motocross season. But the Star Racing Yamaha rider comes back just in time to try to add a few points of separation between his teammate Haiden Deegan and current points leader Hunter Lawrence.
Only 19 points out from Leader Hunter Lawrence (96); we cannot count out Justin Cooper (32). Though rookie Haiden Deegan (238) has gained a lot of attention recently, Justin Cooper is an experienced rider in this class and has had himself in this position before; we wouldn’t be surprised if he were able to get a few more wins by the end of the season.
LAPS ON LAPS
Recently we saw Jason Anderson (21) putting in the work at Glen Helen on fast Tuesdays. Since coming back from injury, Jason’s results have improved, even landing himself on the podium at Washougal. Jason also has the potential to put an end to Jett’s streak.

THREE-POINT SEPARATION
Haiden Deegan (238) sits only three points out of the lead for the Championship, behind Factory HRC rider Hunter Lawrence (96). Though Hunter has had some bad luck throughout this season, the old saying goes, “Consistency wins championships,” and consistent is exactly what Haiden Deegan has been. He solidified the statement by putting together the only 1 -1 result of the season by any 250 riders at the Washougal National.
LOCK IT UP AT UNADILLA
Jett Lawrence is headed into the Unadilla National this weekend with the potential to win the 2023 AMA 450 National Championship. He would still have to continue racing to keep the perfect season going, but there is a high probability that he will be able to clinch the crown at Unadilla. With 2023 Supercross Champion Chase Sexton missing a few rounds at the beginning of the outdoor season, he has not been able to mount on the challenge for the title. The closest competitor to the HRC rider is Star Yamaha’s Dylan Ferrandis. Dylan sits 95 points out of the lead and is mathematically still a title contender going into Unadilla. You can never say it’s over until the official results are published because this is motocross, and strange things do happen.

INJURY REPORT (IT WOULD BE EASIER TO LIST WHO ISN’T ON IT)
COOPER WEBB – LEAVING KTM
Cooper Webb had a practice crash leading up to the 2023 Red Bud National. KTM stated he was feeling pretty banged up. He sat out that round, and then, on Thursday before Southwick, KTM and Cooper Webb announced that they have parted ways, effective immediately, and Cooper Webb will not race any more Nationals for KTM this summer. However, Cooper is expected to race in the Supermotocross playoffs on a Yamaha.
CHANCE HYMAS – KNEE
Chance suffered an ACL knee injury during midweek testing; he underwent surgery to repair it and will miss the remainder of the season.
JORDON SMITH – THUMB/WRIST
Jordon suffered a thumb and wrist injury during midweek testing. He will sit could be back on the track before the 250 Nationals are over.
ELI TOMAC – ACHILLES TENDON
Eli Tomac hyper-extended his ankle while leading the 450 Main Event at Denver and ruptured his Achilles tendon, putting him out for the entire season. As of now, Eli doesn’t says he will not retire and , at the moment has a Supercross-only deal with Star Yamaha for the 2024 season (with an option for the Nationals). He will not race the 2023 Supercross motocross playoffs.
GUILLEM FARRES – BROKEN ARM
Guillem suffered a gnarly broken arm at Thunder Valley at the start of the first 250 moto. He will miss the rest of the season.
MICHAEL MOSIMAN – SHOULDER INJURY
Michael crashed at Hangtown at the start of the second 250 moto; he injured his shoulder severely enough to require surgery. The GasGas rider is out for the rest of the season.
NATE THRASHER – HIP, COLLARBONE, ACL
Nate Thrasher is out for the season. He sustained a cracked collarbone and dislocated hip during his crash at the Atlanta Supercross. Nate underwent successful surgery on the hip and another surgery on his knee to repair a torn ACL.
CHRISTIAN CRAIG – DISLOCATED HIP AND BROKEN/DISLOCATED ELBOW
Christian went down in the first practice session at Glendale through the whoops section dislocating both his hip and elbow. Christian is not expected back this season.
CAMERON MCADOO – DISLOCATED SHOULDER/TORN LABRUM
Cameron McAdoo sustained a dislocated shoulder while practicing before Glendale and he underwent surgery immediately to get it fixed. He will be out for most likely the rest of the season.
NICK ROMANO – KNEE
Nick Romano will miss the entire 2023 season, both Supercross and motocross. Nick tore his ACL and meniscus in his knee and had surgery.
MALCOLM STEWART – KNEE
Malcolm Stewart crashed while practicing after the San Diego Supercross, and he tore his ACL. Malcolm had surgery and is out for the foreseeable future, but Husqvarna renewed his contract for 2024-2025.
