MILLVILLE NATIONAL MOTOCROSS VIDEO RECAP: THE RED PLATE GOES BLUE

Over the last four 450 Nationals, Yamaha’s Eli Tomac has been methodically chewing into Chase Sexton points lead, that he has held since winning the first round at Pala. In the process Tomac started a win streak that carried over to the Millville, Minnesoto’s Spring Creek track. And culminated in Tomac taking the points lead an d Red Plate away from “Young Sexton.” But it wasn’t easy. Although Tomac had good starts, Sexton actually ran him down and passed him in the first 450 moto, only to end up pushing the front end through a berm, going over the bars and having the spinning rear wheel of his Honda land on his back. There was a lesson to be learned from Sexton’s misfortune—because he was wearing a chest protector, with back protection, the rear wheel ripped his jersey from stem to stern, but the plastic back plate protected his skin. Tomac passed Sexton when he was down and went on the win the first moto.

In the second moto, Tomac got to the front with a couple quick passes, but couldn’t shake Sexton for the whole 35 minutes. Perhaps Tomac’s choice to run a Dunlop MX14 scoop tire in both motos was the difference in moto two, as it worked perfectly with Eli’s full-throttle riding style—opening enough margin on corner exit to keep Sexton at bay. There were lots of moves in the 450 top ten. Jason Anderson moved to third in points, while a disasterous day for Ken Rocaen dropped him to fourth. Ryan Dungey and Christian Craig are only two points apart in the battle for fifth

As for the 250 class—it was more of the same for Jett and Hunte Lawrence — in that Jett won and Hunter lost more points (although still holding on to second in the 250 National Championship). But, it should be noted be that Joe Shimoda, came through the pack to go 3-2 for second overall, while Hunter struggled in the second moto to go 2-5. Jett leads Hunter by 27 points (two weeks ago Hunter had the 250 points lead).
