MOTOCROSS ACTION PHOTO OF THE DAY: PRE-SUPER
Jeremy McGrath appeared on the cover of MXA many times as a seven-time AMA Supercross Champion, but this cover is his most unique, and it is also the first cover he ever appeared on. That is Jeremy on a Kawasaki KX250 back in 1990 when he was an MXA test rider.
Jeremy shows not just the style of the day, but the fashion styles of the day. Jody had Troy Lee paint the Indian headress helmet and it pre-dates MXA’s switch to orange helmets. In fact, back then Troy’s shop was in a hangar at Corona Airport. Before MXA switched to orange helmets in 1996, MXA had special helmets painted for every bike test. We drove Troy crazy with our helmet ideas.
Note the music-themed helmet that Jeremy is wearing in this YZ250 two-stroke test. This was during Yamaha’s magenta phase. This photo was shot at the long-gone DeAnza Cycle Park.
