REM GLEN HELEN: BLAKE HARBOR WINS TWO CLASSES; 24 HOUR RACE NEXT WEEKEND

REM’s whoop section had two good lines.

Glen Helen’s weekly REM races are set to take a week off for October 14th’s “24 Hours of Glen Helen” endurance race, so the SoCal locals were taking advantage of the last chance to hammer out long motos before handing their track over to the cross country guys next weekend.

Dylan Haase (15) moved up to the 125 Intermediate class, but doesn’t think his RM125 is fast enough for the tougher competition.

Blake Harbor had a good day at REM winning not only the 125 Intermediates, but the 250 intermediates as well. Harbor only won two of his four motos, but they were the right ones. Second in the 125 Intermediates was Ben Hagle (2-3) with Travis Brandin (5-1) third. In the 250 Intermediate class, Dylan McKee played runner-up to Harbor with Brandon Gillespie in third.

Terry Fowler swept the combined Pro class when Matty Dowell got stranded at the top of Mt. Whitney with bike troubles.

Terry Fowler (2) tried to clear the triple step-up, but a shorter run this week made it impossible.

In the Over-40 Master class Steve Pfaff’s 2-1 nipped Bryan Daniel’s 1-2. Four-time AMA 250 National Champion Gary Jones was third (Gary is well over 50 years old). Paul Kellen won the Over-40 Expert class over C.T, Falk, Tim Murphy and Ron Lawson (and yes, you have every right to ask what the differences between the 40 Master and 40 Expert classes are, but it’s a SoCal secret). Marc Prince’s 2-2 was good enough for the Over-40 Intermediate gold.

Jody Weisel (33) crests the top of Mt. Whitney on his way to third in the 50 Intermediate class.

Not caught up in the AMA politics, REM allows CRF150s to race in the 85cc class and this week’s mini duel was a two-stroke versus four-stroke showdown. Dallas Leedom, on an RM85, upheld two-stroke honor over the hard charging CRF150s of Billy Musgrave (son of Willy) and Justin Jones (son of Gary). Leedom went 1-2, Musgrave 3-1 (when a last lap passing attempt in the first moto on Leedom with two turns to go went awry and allowed Jones of push him back to third) and Jones went 2-2.

George Kohler (32), Willy Amaradio (2) and Jim Hoover were nose-to-tail for the 50 Master win. Amaradio got the nod.

There is no REM race next weekend because the 24 Hour race, but REM will return to Glen helen on October 21. Practice starts at 9 am.
